When was the last time you changed the spark plugs and the oxygen sensor on the car ?

You can change the plugs but I recommend not changing any mechanical parts until you read the stored ECU code that caused the light to come on in the first place. I hear Autozone will hook up the reader and tell you the code for free. Normally the ECU is under the passenger kick panel. I do not know where the service connector for your model is but Autozone does.

what year is your car? Autozone only does that for model year 1996 and up.

If you have an OBDII (96+) most Autozones have a service where they will plug in a scanner to your ECU and retrieve the codes for free. If you don’t have this service available at your local Autozone, or you don’t have a local Autozone, or you have a pre-96 car, you will need to pull the code yourself. (You can take it to a dealership to have them pull the codes, but personally, I can think of a thousand better ways to spend $70/hour).

To learn how to pull your own codes, go here and read everything:
http://www.hondapitstop.com/accord/technotes1/engine/error_codes/error_codes.html

If for some reason that isn’t sufficient for you, you may want to look at this:

Now you should have a code…and you probably want to know what the code means, so check out these pages. Between these 4 pages you will DEFINANTLY find your code and what part of the car it refers to.

$70./hr. Where do they charge that rate? They charge #115./hr in the SF Bay area.

Well, it depends upon what model you have. For the 6th gen Accords (98-02) you can Go to autozone and have them pull the code for you. They'll do it for free

Then go here to figure out what's wrong
Codes for check engine light (http://board.hondasociety.com/showthread.php?t=79620)
