02 Explorer's would be one of the most popular retrofits. Any engine within the modualr family, should fit in without any major fab work. 4.6's, 5.4's mainly.

I am lookin at a Ford Racing 302 with 320 hp. Do you think that would fit? And also i was wandering if my engine bay is the same size as the 94 mustang. because i have found many engines to fit it. Just not to many to be put in a thunderbird. BTW, what does yourt-bird have done to it?

These will fit within the engine bay. No guaranty on hood clearence.
302 (5.0L), 351 (5.8L), 460
3.8L & 4.2L V6
4.6L SOHC & DOHC
5.4L SOHC
The 5.4L DOHC engine will not fit.

Going with a 5.0 will dictate the necessity to change ecu and wiring harness, transmission, accessories, etc...
