I'm in the market for a new/new-to-me car in the next 4-6 months, and the 3 is on my list. I like the 5-door but it is significantly more expensive than the sedan.
How much do they typically go for on after haggling?

My recommendation would be to check out Edmunds.com and look at their TMV price guide as well as NADA.com to find out the actual dealer invoice on the car.

I just purchased the 2005 5 door model for a hair over $17,000. A Consumer reports print out suggested I start haggling at $16,000. My father has a plan through his work that enabled be to get $1,000 off the suggested retail price. I didn't get many of the bells and whistles but I did get the moonroof/6 CD changer and everything else was standard. If you think about it, its a hell of a deal for all the standard amenities. Hope this helps...

I bought mine in July 2004 for 17,300. with the six disc/moonroof package. I would have sprung for the ABS and airbag package if they had the colors I wanted, but they didn't :disappoin
Overall I am very happy with my 3.

Thanks guys. Hmm, 17K is a little too close to a new Impreza 2.5 RS, which is pretty much my ideal car and the base for everything else: Unless it's a killer deal, anything close to that price loses out to the RS.
The 3 5-door is pretty slick though: Throw AWD in that puppy and we have a different ball game.
