I recently got a '96 GLS. About a month ago I went to start it, it played the welcome music when I stuck the key in the ignition but when I turned the key the music stoppped and the car wouldn't start, wouldn't jump, and wouldn't even pop-start (it's a stick). It was then that I noticed that neither the lights nor the power/vaccum locks were working. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it (thinking it was an alarm problem) and all was well...until today. Now when I go to unlock all door with the key in the driver's side it doesn't unlock any other doors but it does roll down only the driver's window--which really helps my passengers wishing to get in the car. Same thing happens on the passenger side. When I try the switch inside the car nothing happens. Where should I start to try to fix it?

Consider yourself lucky the alarm doesn't sound when you open the door. The anti-theft system on your car is prone to quirky failures & can be very hard to track down. If you want to keep the system get a good manual like a Bentley & be prepared to spend alot of time checking wires & switches. Most people disable the alarm system, see the numerous threads on the subject....
