car dies out

My 91 grand am when it gets warm dies. it will start right back up but dies as soon as it is put in gear. if i wait 10-15 mins it will run ok for a little while then it dies if you stop. if the car sits overnight it will work fine for a week or so then does it again. it has a 4 cylinder motor. any help wouild be great.

Sounds like it could be the fuel pump - lots of times old fuel pumps will stop working when they get hot - thus causing fuel to stop going to the engine. That's why when you shut it off, the fuel pump cools off and then works again. If you still have the original fuel pump that came with the vehicle, it would deffinately be my guess.

One other possible, is replace the in-line fuel filter. it could be clogged and is restricting fuel flow to the engine. The filter is around the gas tank, mounted in-line to fuel line to engine, usually bracketed to the frame.
Use caution in removing, the thing is under constant pressure, but if ya don't have gas squirting out, then the pump is likely malfunctioning.
