if that question was any broader, it would look like this...
?

as for brands, i try to stick w/ names. not for the name, but usually u can bet on better quailty. also i try to avoid companies that sell EVERYTHING for EVERYTHING (APC, MATRIX, OBX)
yes i will admit i have an OBX exhaust. i got scammed, and ended up installing it anyway, and damnit, it sounds wonderful! not loud, not raspy, no weed wacker/paper smacking/dirtbike sound. just a mellow deep hum, and a bit of a pitch and db increase under heavy accel. i was pissed when i found out i was scammed, but very impressed w/ the end result.
i guess it comes down to if u'r looking for quality or savings. in the end though, it will be more expensive to get a cheap part and then have to replace it, than to just fork out more for the quality and only have to buy once.
some knock offs r perfectly comparible to the brand they r knocked off of. some really r the brand they r "immitating" they just don't have the name on it, so u don't have to pay for the name. just do u'r research.

yeah exactly what are you looking to buy?

Depends you get what you pay for! Is it worth it to get it cheaper and fix it for more, or just pay more for a new good item?
When purchasing look at reviews, just search the name and see what others experiences are and go from there.

I learned the hard way to do it right the first time, the parts are more expensive, but its better than having to replace it in a year or 2. Just my 2cents.

If you are talking about cams and gam gears, clutches and flywheels, then ya, spend the extra money, but if you are talking about steering wheels, shift knobs and ebrake handles, then I'd say get what looks nice, they aren't very "functional", you can't really break them, or get them miss aligned. They aren't the things that are going to mess up your motor, or damage any other part of your car because they were made cheap.
