These are some pictures of my current setup. 2 12" kenwoods, and a sony amp, I've searched through the older posts and most of them say that both sony and kenwood suck. But they sound decent, especially for a first system. So I'm looking for a good brand, and setup. I am looking to spend under $500 hopefully, but I could always spend more. 2 12"s would be nice, but any setup you guys recommend could be done. I'm looking for subs, amp, and a lightning cap. Everyone says 1 ferret should be good. In another post someone said I needed measurements of my truck to find the right box size and type, but I don't know much about about this kind of stuff, so if someone could tell me what I need to measure and all that, that would be cool. Thanks for the help.

although i wouldnt recommend kenwood subs or sony anything. if your system sounds decent now, why get rid of it? what exactly is your goal. more bass? clearer bass?

I'd look into a GREAT 1 sub setup as opposed to TWO mediocre subs.
As far as one sub:
www.incriminatoraudio.com Lethal Injection Series, they're coming out with a 15...i'd go with on 15 LI. Check them out at Visionary Audio for pricing. Then for an amp, anything from 500-800 RMS and I can design you a custom ported for $10-15...grand total of prolly $450 tops. It'll sound amazing and be LOUD! peace

I like my current setup, but I just want something bigger and better. When I turn it up, it starts to get distorted, and I have to play it almost all they way up, just to get pleasure out of it anymore. It's almost like I've gotten used to it and like its not loud enough anymore. I've heard a couple of my freinds, and it blows mine away. I don't know if maybe I have the wrong kind of box for the space I have, of maybe the box is the wrong size, or if my amp is not powerful enough. Before I go out and buy a whole new setup, should I try and redo my box, maybe change styles of boxes and at the most buy a new amp and lightning cap. Anything you guys can think of would help.

You have every right to go bigger and better! In all honesty...those subs are TERRIBLE. Go with one Lethal Injection and a good 500-800 rms amplifier. You'll be wanging...MUCH better than current setup. peace

And don't waste your money on a cap. If it's a problem, upgrade the big 3.

With my setup now when a big bass section comes up the lights really dim, and the volt guage on my dash dives down to right about 9 volts. If I get a better amp would that still do that? What big 3 are you talking about upgrading?

your lights are dimming because your amp is drawing power from your battery faster than your alternator can charge it up. this is a problem with just about any system with larger than 8awg power wire. it is not the particular brand of amp that is causing it. its the amount of power it is drawing. adding an extra battery or getting a bigger alternator will fix the problem. as for bjs question, a cap (capacitor) kind of works like a battery but it doesnt just contiuously feed power. it is also capable of discharging a certain amount of power when asked to. example: when you take a picture with a camera you can hear kind of a whistle sound. that sound is the capacitor charging up. when you push the button the cap discharges giving you a flash. this is how the flash gets as bright as it does. the battery in the camera is not capable of doing this.

big 3 is upgrading your
Alternator to Battery wire
Battery Ground wire
Alternator ground.
And if you need more than that, upgrade to a Yellow Top Battery. CAPS ARE USELESS

It's a term used a lot int he car audio world about upgrading three important electrical wires under the hood
Add 3 wires in either 4awg or 1/0 awg:
-Battery Positive to the alternator lead
-Battery Negative to the Chassis Ground
-Battery Negative to the engine block ground
Also, look into replacing your stock battery with an Optima. I have a red top for sale if you're interested in the future. peace

I was planning on buying a new battery soon anyways, but which one should I buy? Red or yellow top? On the Optima web site they say the yellow top is for deep cycle, and better for your audio systems? Whats the difference between deep cycle and the red top? Will it matter which one I buy? Should I do a new alternator too? My truck has 140,000 miles, so maybe that would be good too?

Well, the first thing to do is the big three and the battery upgrade. If you are replacing your stock battery it's best to use a red top...cuz it's what is warrantied for starting application. Yellow top is better in competition and auxillary battery setups. I have a Red Top for sale, in mint condition if you may be interested!

If you just run your system while the car is running, then I'd go with the red.
