Header Install

I have a 94 Mustang GT. I have a set of BBK long tube headers that I will be installing as soon as I get my X-Pipe. I was wondering if anyone happens to know if I need any special tools to install the headers. I have an oil lube pit to work from so I can be underneath the car with plenty of space. What all will I need to take out to get the headers in if I need to take anything out. Also, what would be an estimated time for installation? how do you think it will sound running straight 2 1/2 pipe after the X-pipe? I'm considering taking off my flowmasters and see how it sounds. If any of you have done this or know of the difficulty and stuff then let me know. Thanks.

installing headers on a 94 is gunna be a bit of a pita. i have a 95 and i looked underneath it to inspect the headers onece. there is no room whatsoever on the passenger side to get to the header. iv herd you have to un bolt the motor mounts. then lift the engine up a few inches to get them out. it might be easier to not do it in your pit. unless you have an engine stand. if not you can jack up the car car, put some soports under the engine unbolt the monts, set the car down a little bit so the engine is still suported and higher then u can get tehm.

Yes they are a bit of a pita to put on. You will need to remove the starter, the support member under the motor, unbolt the motor mounts and disconnect the steering linkage. The drivers side wasnt bad at all once you get the linkage out of the way. Mine slid in from the bottom. The passenger side is the pain in the ass. This side must go in from the top, at least that was the easiest for me anyway. The motor will need to be jacked up in order to get the collector to slide through.

This isn't an easy job, but you have the benefit of a pit. I had to do this in my garage with jack stands. :shakehead not fun

The end result was well worth it though, lots more power down low and up high. As far as the sound, it will be louder I promise you. Very worth while mod IMO.

Now I notice you have the same year car I do you may not be able to get that support memeber back on the car after the long tubes go on without modification. Also the EGR tube will have to be extended.

Wow. That's a lot of stuff to do. I think I could handle about all that except tilting the motor. I wouldn't know how to do that b/c I've never removed a motor or anything but I appreciate all of the information you two gave me. I will be ordering my X-pipe in the middle of this week and once I get it I will be putting the exhaust together. Thanks
