I was looking at in a few months getting a second Caddy and was wondering about the Northstar Engine are they as good as the 4.9? is ther a perticular year to stay away from? I would really like a fleetwood and am also wondering about the LT1 that is in them? let me know if anyone has any comments. Kraig

The 4.9 had the lowest number of repairs of any Cadillac engine. So, yes, it is a very reliable engine! The Northstar is also very reliable if it's taken care of properly. It can have problems if the cooling system is not maintained. Both are excellent engines, I have one of each!
The LT1s in the Fleetwoods are great engines as well, there's not too much better than a classic small block Chevy!
