Using AIM at work with proxy servers

Ok, I hate my work, they blocked AIM somehow. I've been working on getting it back, but cant. Maybe somebody can give me some work arounds.

Work has 4 proxy servers. You can browse in IE just fine with each of them with port 80, but if you try putting that info into AIM, it doesnt connect.

Ok, now I've been thinking about doing this somehow. Going through IE, to my computer at my house, and connecting through AIM that way. Can it be done and what needs to be installed? I'll think about it some more, but any suggestions will help. Thanks.

Fixed it. Gotta use the new version of aim, which allows http access and not https. They blocked any sort of software installation, so we have to zip it and send it to our web based mail and copy the folder over. :D

Lucky you :( We are on a network with dummy terminals (no PC's) and I had to use AIM Express. Then they got a new firewall and reconfig'd it so we can't even use that :(

try this one. on the state of CT network server for all technical high schools. no software installs, and the N2H2 "Bess" internet firewall/filter is smart, u can go to a site it will block once, then not again because it remembers. AIM, ICQ, Microsoft messenger, yahoo messenger, imesh, kazaa, morpheus, bear share, gnutella, all of them blocked. but here is what we did, all ports except port 80 are open, so we went to www.multiproxy.org and found an annonymous port 80 proxy and told all those progs to use it. so far AIM is the only one to go, but it went damn good. :alien:

Damn work servers, I'll have to check it out at home.

Also, HTTP connections of AIM seem really unstable, keeps on booting us off. But some l337 hackrs found out how to use HTTPS and its just like old days now.

hmm...all u need is an anon. proxy to use on whatever ports they leave open...usually 80, try diff. servers, some are unstable, some are rock solid...

Nice to know you got it working again, but do you really need to use AIM at work? Web surfing is bad enough, but chatting... :uhoh:

Hey there...

My status: i'm on the dummy terminals (no case sitting on the floor). Due to administrator priveledges we cannot download and install software, so I'm restricted to aim express. Problem is they've recently blocked that.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy the situation?
I know multiproxy was recommended for those having problems with regular aim, but would such a tactic work with aim express? Any help that can be offered greatly appreciated.

I sometimes have the same problem where I work where I cannot access AIM. Try some of these, or a combination:

1. Get the IP address of the AIM logon server that you use.
2. Change the logon port to something benign. I use daytime, telnet, chargen, or other well known ports. As far as my experience goes, you can use pretty much any port.
3. Proxy it.
4. Find a new job with lazy IT staff who chat as much as you.
