is there a way to take off the stock radio without getting it professionally done, you need some crazy tool, but is there a way to just pop it off?

What year is your car? From 00-04, You can make the "tool" out of a wire coat hanger or pick one up at Radio Shack, car parts store, etc. Up until the recent redesign of many Fords, they had the easiest radios to change.

If you want to replace the radio, I suggest buying a radio from Crutchfield.com. They give you everything you need to do the job ( new wiring harness, THE TOOL TO REMOVE THE OLD RADIO, and all the instructions. I have bought all my car audio supplies from them and never been disappointed.

Just look at threads from the past month, this exact same info has been covered quite a few times.
