I am trying to squeeze some speakers into my door panels that are rated 6.5 inches, but which clearly don't fit. I was wondering if I pull out the stock mounting bracket (black plastic thing) is there likely a new mounting bracket I could buy to make the new speakers fit? I would call places and ask but I am home sick with no voice so I was trying to use this time to plan out my next step.

Check out or call up Crutchfield.com. I think they have prefab parts or something.
You could always fabricate something, too...

i did that in my crx and dont recommend it, i bought slightly oversized speakers for my car and had to remove the black thing, and now the speakers scrape my windows and have tore up part of my tint, the black things are there to protect your windows, id suggest to get the correct size speakers.

I'm having the same issue trying to fit these speakers. Crutchfield seems to indicate that 6.5" speakers with a 5" or less cut-out dimension should fit. Quite a few 6.75" speakers are marketed as 6.5" but will not fit without surgery.
Crutchfield has a pretty good matrix on fit. Very few 6.5" speakers out there fit the 5G Civic. The stock speakers are only 6.25" at the OD - the cut-out is definitely less than 5".

So why did honda decide to go and make the speaker cut outs some whack ass size? *sigh* Oh well, I will look into crutchfields and maybe smaller speakers. What a pain, so many places list 5g civics as 6.5 and don't mention anything else.

1. go to home depot and get a 1/4 sheet of mdf.
2. use a saw, file, sand paper or whatever to make a 1/4 wide ring to mount the speaker to.
3. this will prevent it from rubbing the windows and allow you to fit damn near an 8" speaker in a civic or crx
