car cuts out while driving!! HELP!!

Help, I have a 92 buick regal with a 3.1..the car will just cut out while driving and if you come to a stop it will sometimes die. had it to a mechanic and this is what was done...egnition modual, new computer, plugs and wires, oil change, o2 sensor, coolant temp sensor, throttle body/injector cleaned, new crank sensor & connector & struts..it still does the cutting out, it will idle just fine but while driving it likes to just cut out and will act like that specially while drive up a hill or incline. Mechanic is stumped, says a possible electrical problem but doesnt know what, can anyone out there help me?????? thanks so much

Sounds like low fuel pressure, especially if it cuts out under max load (going uphill in high gear).
Measure the fuel pressure and if it's low get a new fuel filter.
You may also need to check the fuel pump. There may be other things to check but this is the place to start.

we have changed the fuel filter and had the pressure checked, all checked out fine. I am lost at what else it could possibley be, any other suggestions???

I had the same problem but it was the crank sensor on mine. These Regals seemed to have lots of electrical problems. Mine was an '89 with a 3.1.

how much was the crank sensor?? mine does the same thing, it just stopped one day in traffic and hasnt been the same. i can start it now and it will idle just fine, but when i drive it will cut off unless i shift to neutral, but even then it will still cut off. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. not trying to spend too much money to one of these mechanics...

Just a thought, but maybe someone pulled the oldschool trick of putting a pingpong ball in the gas tank??

The cranksensors appear to be a weak spot on these models. Intermittent failure is generally followed by total failure inside an hour of operation for a cranksensor. As the motors get old and start to leak oil, it drains down the back of the motor and onto the sensor. This shortens their lifes.
Secondly, a fuel pump relay can fail intermittently and will do this at temp. Symptoms are similar but the intermittent failure can go on for much longer before a "walk home" results.

It was many years ago but the sensor should only be about $60 or so. Access is pretty easy too if I remember correctly. The shop foreman had it out in a few minutes.
