A short drive home

So as I left work last night, I hopped in the car and hoped to go it would start (ignition switch has been ordered, just have to get off work to get it and install it). So after the third turn of the key it started up. So as always I slowly crawled over the speed bumps of my work and left. As I left my work I turned onto a major street and sped up. So naturally I shifted into third and pressed the gas to keep going. Yea to bad it didn't get into third. So as I roll there I pull it out of gear and wiggled the shifter, thinking maybe I'm just dumb. Well when I slapped my knee I noticed something ain't right. :banghead:

So I pulled over and looked under my car. This may have actually been a good idea, had I jacked the car up enough to be able to see anything :banghead:. So I jacked it up and checked the short shifter linkage and it was fine. So I went to check the linkage where the shifter meets the tranny. So I checked it and had found out the pin had become disconnected. Luckily the boot that slid over the shifter linkage was still there and holding the linkage from dropping on the ground at 40mph. Also it retained the linkage pin so I was able to put it back in this morning before work. And of course that had happened to have been the day I forgot my damned phone at home! Luckily some nice lady pulled over and let me use her phone to call my dad and tow the bitch home....

Same thing happened to me after I got my replacement d16a6 done. I left the shop... everything cool, drove about 10 miles, got home, went inside, came out, everything cool, drive to my friend's house about 15 miles away and hang out. I park in his loose deep gravel driveway and go to leave and can start the car fine, but can't put into any gears. I couldn't even get under the car with a jack on that loose crap so I had to have a tow. The shop owner took care of the tow bill and said, "that never happens"... well, it sure does happen...

Actually after talking to a friend of mine who's been into hondas (especially CRXs') sinec he was 15 told me its pretty common. He lost his pin and didn't have the boot and ended up having to ghetto rig a bolt in there...

And I never knew that a volvo 240 wagon could be used to tow a car, but then again when the car weighs under 2000 pds, I guess a lot of things could tow it. Kinda makes me want to get a volvo wagon when I get old...
