Gutted MAF?

I saw someone over on 3si discussing the benefits of aftermarket MAF systems and that of a gutted MAF. Does anyone know about that kind of setup? Did they take all the honeycombed stuff out? I thought I should ask since I am about to try and finish putting my intake on (hacksaw method might be next, I wish I had seen Thourun's post earlier). Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, that intake thing can be a bitch if you don't know about those 4 bolts stripping the plastic before you start.
My opinion...don't gut the stock mas...some have had issues arise from doing it. Most aftermarket larger MAS or MAFs already don't have the honeycomb stuff inside...so you don't have to worry about them, but if you're still stock MAS, I wouldn't gut it.
