wierd oil leak

Hello,
I have a 87' s10 2wd with a 2.8 that has recently been rebuilt by a local hypo shop the oil is leaking out of the adapter(i call it an adapter for lack of a better word) where the oil filter screws on in the stock location it is coming out between this fitting and the block. I thought it could be a gasket or the fitting could just be loose. I have not driven the truck since the rebuild due to a DMV mix up any thoughts?

I think there is a o ring under there.

I think thier is something under there wether it is a gasket or an o ring I dont know and the chilton manual does not help.

It's a gasket, and they're ard to find.
I had to get mine made up.

I understood that those adaptors were only used in 4x4's and they are just to re-position the oil filter for clearance reasons.

My 85 2wd parts truck doesn't have one. I don't know if I can just pull the hollow stud or whatever out. But if you want I can try, and then just throw it in an envolope addressed to you, allowing you to bypass the leaking hard to find gasket

I appreciate the offer but I talked to the guy who built my engine not to long ago and he said to try to tighten the center bolt. he said that since my motor hasn't been driven that it may be loose. All I know is that my neighbor said that there is a fragile piece of brass or somrthing under there that will crack if overtightened. What do you think?

No brass in there, just the engine blocks steel, and the pot steel of the adaptor.

I wouldn't try to sinch the hell out of it but do try tightening it.

If you can you might want to take it off first, clean everything up, then use gasket goop.

and of course let the gasket goop harden up a little before you tighten it

I know that it's an easy job but Your a nice guy. This is really the job of the engine company, and they should repair it for free if you ask them too

Good for you. They probably couldn't get the gasket, and just tried using gasket goop.

It shouldn't take them more than 1/2 an hour to fix, so it's nothing out of their pocket really.

too bad about the arguing though they should have just told you to bring it in when you talked to them yesterday

I replace the o-rings on mine with brand new o-rings, it still leaked.

So them I used some high temp silcone with the new o-rings, that fixed the problem.

Yours has an O-ring? What year would that be, and is it a 2.8L?

It would be nice to know when the switch was and where people can get these gaskets, and O-rings since this isn't the first time that someone has had this same problem

Mine is a 4.3 W, 92 4 x 4 with remoter oil filter.

I do not like using gasket sealer, but at times it is the only answer.

the 4.3L engine is completly different than his 2.8L.

I know what you mean about the gasket sealer, but there are 2 places where I won't work without it.
I like using it on 1 side of my valve cover gaskets, holding it onto the valve cover.
Plus I like using it on thermostat housing gaskets. It makes it easier for those thermostat's that are in impossible to reach areas... then it'll never leak
