Well I just started to race my car and I wanted to know if you guys know any tips on doing this.
So far I know about "double clutching" which is when you shift up and quickly disengauge your clutch to increase the rev and ingauge it again.
I don't know if this does any damage to the engine or the clutch but i know it helps you buld up rev and pressure and gives you a boost.

Anyone else know any other tips

Yeah, it burns 5000 miles off the clutch each time you do it. You can also practice the heel and toe which is when you brake with your toes and as you down shift, press the gas with your heel to match the engine speed to the car speed, that's all I can say since Ican't do it, my legs are to long. :-S

Yea, but he said that he is racing, not drifting. I doubt he is gonna Heel-Toe while dragging. lol. That would be funny. If you are runing a really close race, the you can powershift which means that you just barely even let off the gas pedal if any at all, then shove the clutch in and shift as fast as possible and release it. I would not recommend doing this as it puts high amounts of stress mainly on the clutch, but I have done it my share of times when I had to. Anyway, good luck becoming a fast driver.

Heel and toe also works for autocross and time trials and stuff like that, not just drifting, anything with corners.

Isn't double clutching the uber crazy trick that big Vin used in the first FNF????!!! Seriosuly, isn't it like Heel and toe except you hit the clutch twice?

HAHAHAHAHA double clutching, nothing beats a quick smooth shift, if you can shift quick enough it would be pointless to rev the engine. please stop watching FnF.

dat mag is das bizzom yo!!

seriously tho, double clutching is something racers used back in the olden days when cars didnt have synchro meshing is theirs trannies. but all modern cars these days have synchro meshing so double clutching is waste of time and a good way to humiliate urself.

i admit, i tried double clutching before, just to see if it actually works. did it twice then imidiately slapped myself for even tryin it. best way to shift is quick n smooth, nuthin else

Usually in any type of racing, whatever method you feel most comfortable doing and practice the most is the quickest for you. There is no one right way.

^ amen... nothing beats seat time and individually honed skills... Be creative... if you drive/"race" long enough... you'll figure out what's best in your style.

heel-toe, double-clutch, power shiTTing, etc... they are just basics or BS ... so just knowing that won't necessarily make you a fast "so-called" racer.

im down w/ the standard shift nothing fancy no FNF bullshit in the terms of vin deisel i "granny shift" but im fast still

thats not really double clutching
on modern cars with intact synchros you dont really need to double clutch, especially if you drag race

look here please
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=375770

and if you drift, autocross, road race, rally, ect. you NEED to learn how to heel-toe this may help VVV

http://www.tcsracing.org/heelandtoe.htm

other than that just work on not missing shifts, hooking up your wheels on the launch, and reaction time

Double clutching is used on older cars (like someone already said) and mosly during down shifting,
you put the car in nutral,
release the clutch,
rev to match the rpm on the next gear,
press in clutch and shift to desired gear.
I use this when i am in nutral at around 80mph (highways) and need to go back to gear.
When downshifting always rev match, rev up a bit while the clutch is in, less ware.

And do you drag on street or do the racing in closed environments with supervision?
Don't do it on the streets, it is dangerouse and stupid, besides putting yourself at risk you also put others at risk.

pavlo, you just described heel-and-toe. (Except you don't push the clutch in twice, just once.)

Is't heel-and-toe when you depress all the padals at once?
Like: left foot on clutch,
Right foot- heel on the accelerator and toe on the brakes?
Maybe thats wrong, do i think right:
Double clutch is what described previously,
Rev-match is what I added to my previouse post and Heel-and-toe is what I described just now?

By the way logic, you are quick :).

double clutching is matching the transmission input shaft speed with the output shaft speed so that a car without synchros or worn down transmission can shift

heel toe is downshifting while braking without upsetting the weight balance of the car

PLEASE READ THE TWO LINKS I PUT UP EARLIER

but basically
heel toe =
clutch in
shifter to neutral
clutch out
clutch in
shifter to next gear
clutch out

heel toe=
braking

clutch in
tap the gas with right side of foot while left side of foot is still on brake

shifter to next gear and let out clutch before the revs drop from the tap of the gas

the point is to match the engine speed to the wheel(transmission) speed so when you downshift you dont experience engine braking or that slow lurch that you feel when downshifting normally. both of these will severely upset the balance of your car and cause you to probably spin out when driving hard.

I dunno that much about heel-toe shifting, but I know about double clutching and floating gears from spending time on a truck when I was 16.

Double clutching is like the first example slidewayz... gives. Clutch in, shift to neutral, clutch out (first clutch action), rev up, clutch in, shift to next gear, clutch out (second clutch action), mash on gas til next shift.

Floating gears is used more in truck driving, and things like nascar. Its where you match your road and engine speed to where you don't need to depress the clutch. Just shift to the next gear. Saves wear on the clutch, but wears the tranny faster. I can do it in my 83 Nissan/Datsun truck, so I don't see why it isn't possible in a 240.
