In pursuit of a new car

I've always been a fan of Japanese cars (and European, but I can't afford it) and I need an opinion.

My Nissan Maxima is getting old so what Japanese brand would you recommend to me?

And if you could recommend a model, that would be nice too. I like my friend's car which is an Infiniti Q45 but I hard it can be pretty pricey. I just want a long lasting reliable car.

I have also heard that Nissan's don't last as long as Infinitis (although why wouldn't they since they're sibling companies?) Could you clarify this?

any of those brands will last you 10+ years without problems as long as you do the maintenance. personally, i think lexus has the best reliability of them all, but that is just me. I would definetely recommend a Lexus IS300, or a Infiniti G35. Just great overall cars IMO

Any V6/V8-powered Toyota sedan is pretty much indestructible. Go with a Camry V6, or if you want something a bit nicer or sportier, a Lexus GS/LS.

acura is pretty long lasting cars were there engines are said to last upto 300000k, You might want to look at the Integra or the RSX. aftermarket is great and there all around great cars. And they wont kill you in the bank as all the luxury cars everyone else a has said.

its all about how you treat your car when it comes to how long it is going to last. if you gas her everywhere and are constantly slamming it from a dig ur acura is not going to last for 10 years...the is300 is a nice unit. i would get one of those if i had the money.

I think that he might have been referring to lexus. Other than that, they don't.

go with a honda/acura if your looking for more luxery go with an newer accord v6 or an acura CL, RL, etc...very reliable, and a decent aftermarket too

Hell thats a good question as far as performance and car history each company has made its legendary cars toyota-supra, honda/acura-nsx and nissan-skyline or any 240 based car. If you want luxery and performance in the same package lexus, acura and infiniti all have nice cars, if you want a bitchin aftermarket then go honda or nissan. All the companies have strong points and all have week points it would all matter on what your looking for.

Well I've narrowed my choices down.

Lexus LS >1992
Lexus ES >1992
Nissan Maxima > 1998
Nissan Altima > 1998
Honda Accord (no specific years)
Toyota Camry > 1999
Toyota Corolla > 1999
Infiniti I30

I'm also wondering which SUVs are long lasting and reliable. I do a lot of snowboarding so I need a 4x4 to get me up and down the mountain with ease and safety.

I'm going to go with any Infiniti I can find. If I can't find one I like within my price range, my second option is Lexus. Hopefully this is a good choice :D

What v8 sedan does Toyota make?

The Celsior (LS 430) and the Aristo (GS 300/430) both have a 4.3-liter V8. Also, the Century has a V10, but we don't get that one in the States.

someone in here says that you know youre driving a domestic car when it has more cubic inches than horsepower... if domestic engines had all the technological gizmos that fancy imports have then they would spank the import engines no questions asked. this includes dohc, turbocharging or supercharging. it makes a huge difference. take one of your high powered engines from an import and make it a conventional lifter/rocker valvetrain with natural aspiration and it will drop power significantly.

and besides... look at some power curves. a lot of import engines dont really make any power until a certain high rpm then it suddenly jumps up to a peak and after that rpm peak it drops off again. look at the typical curve for, say, a 350 v8. the power curve is higher for all rpms and does not suddenly peak and then be weak in all the other rpm ranges.

do you know how much power a supercharged conventional valvetrain 350 with a blower on it makes? sometimes upward of 1000. thats pretty damn good, granted it probably gets 2 mpg... lol oh well and you cant beat that large displacement roar going down the road versus a weedwhacker tinny kind of buzz from a ricer. lol that alone makes me a fan of domestics

Wow i love it when people bitch aout something that has nothing to do with the thread topic. I drive a domestic and ive had several but as far as ive seen its true. The big bad ass 302 only has what 240hp max a honda 1.6 sohc non vtec 96 c.i. has what 108 thats a motor that has none of this "fancy" technology you consider isnt being used on domestics. Before this becomes an all out flame war over imports vs domestics pic another thread to start bitching at unless you have something that pertains to the original topic forget what you read in my sig. And oh yeah as far as dohc, turbo and s/c applications go look at the cobra its s/c intercooled and it has dohc and it only runs low 12's, vette (not raging on the vette nice fucking car) a 350 with dohc only runs high 12's, honda civic with a b16a swap runs low 14's if installed right and with a small turbo you drop down into cobra territory. Now im going to stop explaining this to high school kids everytime i post something mainly because i hate seeing threads locked for this reason theres a place for import vs domestic threads its the car comparisson forum have fun.
