I heard from a fan site that Nissan-USA will be replacing the sentra with an american version of the Silvia S16. I also heard that the silvia was being pulled from production due to the rising enviormental standards in Japan. So what I to believe?

so what i to believe? well you should believe whatever nissan does. I havent heard about this rumor, but it would be awesome if it was true.

There is no S16.

If Nissan replaces the Sentra it will probably some lame front wheel drive grocery getter.

BTW....This makes me want to vomit!

even if that happens it'll only come with the se-r engine.. not too big of a deal to me

isnt the SE-r engine like a QR25 or something like that? it seems so big for the sentra's 4 door FWD.

Apperently is a totally badass car, rly quick and torquey.

I think if they ever introduced a "silvia" to america... ahh wait they'd never do that, i think there's too much competition out there. It would be too risky to introduce a brand new platform to the market. That's probably the reason they didn't continue 240's. Mostly kids or people who can't afford a rwd sports car are interested, they wouldn't price it under 30g's. FWD is way more economical for everyone, and if you want a rwd sports car you can put an extra 10g's into it and get a 350z or for the same price an rx-8 which is selling like crazy. TOO RISKYYY

Chuki_breath
03-14-2005, 08:02 PM
the s16, if released would not be that expensive. It would probably marketed towards "young adults" (kids in college, or graduated). Kind of like what scion did. Who knows what engine it would have. And you cant go by the fwd crap anymore, because america is know being dominated by the awd turbo craze and the rwd sports cars (350z, rx-8, g35). Plus in the article i read about the s16, it was only considering release in america because drifting is getting huge. So it would definantly not be fwd....plus they wouldnt screw up the legacy of the silvia making it fwd. That would be like an fwd 350z.....AINT GONNA HAPPEN. All in all who cares, im happy with my old ass s13's and we'll just have to wait and see what actually happens.

logik23
03-14-2005, 08:51 PM
They should make it really cheap, just a good engine with a good tranny, RWD, no power windows or seats, no navi system, no back seat, no leather interior, (good seats tho) just what the base 240SX is, they could sell it for dirt cheap.

YESS in a dream land of enchanted dragons, fairies and lollypop laneee. If you knew anything about business/marketing u woudln't have said anything. Your thinking pure aftermarket, with the low sales there would be no aftermarket support, and yeah if they were to make a shit body/chassis the engine/tranny would definitly be shit too. It's like putting a mclaren F1 engine into a civic.

logik23
03-14-2005, 09:01 PM
Who the fuck said anything about a weak chassis? I'm just saying if the Celica GT-S wasn't fucking 30 grand and RWD, it would have sold like crazy instead of getting dropped!

Th*GgEd_OuTtTt
03-14-2005, 09:08 PM
what your talkin about is building a car for pure racing, what's the point of that? who in the market for buying a car they drive every day would wanna buy something with no power/ac nothing. And yes the whole car would be weak, it's be equivalent to a hyundai, and the Celica GT-S is soo slow, if they made it rwd w/ the power train losses it would be even slower, who'd pay 30g's for a car that goes 0 - 100 in 9 sec? my stock s14 240 ate those celicas for b-fast, for an extra 10g's wo uldn't it be worth it to get a 350z?

03-14-2005, 09:15 PM
thats why no S16 will be made... people rather get the 350Z... (why u think they stoped the S13,S14?!) got lost in the mixup btwn the z and the sentra...

wh1skea
03-14-2005, 09:21 PM
well, if you look at the domestic market, then the idea of getting the S16 may actually possible. The sentra is competing against say the new cobalts. The 350Z is more in competition price wise with the vette, considering its plenty more expensive than a stang. So, a small rwd sports car would be able to compete against cars like the mustang. maybe even considered closer competion to the celica, wrx, and lancer.

Th*GgEd_OuTtTt
03-14-2005, 09:23 PM
okay so you want ac but no power options? for what under 20g's with a solid chassis/engine/tran, man you must be under 16 cuz that's a bunch of bull**** that's impossible, no company would invest in a car that wouldn't make it's potential, and before calling anyone a fucktard look at what your saying, it makes no sence to anyone with average intellegence, i wish i had the brain of a chimp too, just so i can understand you.

logik23
03-14-2005, 09:28 PM
It does only take a chimp brain to understand because it's so simple! Obviously, your brain isn't up to the task of competing with a chimp's brain. Why do you think 240s are selling like hotcakes? Because they are cheap, light, RWD, have a good chassis, if it was a new car, Nissan would be making a killing, same for the RX-7 and Supra and 300ZX, they were cut off just when the import craze was starting, I know they were hella expensive, but obviously, alot of people still bought them, not enough, but there would be more now if they were price reasonably (look at the Z33 and RX-8). They could make the RSX-S RWD and sell it for a similar price, it would sell more then the FWD version! Anyways, this is a waste of my time and...and not yours cause you suck, but whatever.

Scope240
03-14-2005, 09:35 PM
so why dont we look at is this way. I think a couple things we can al agree on is we want more power, sturdy chassie, and almost 50/50 weight, RWD[given].....[anything else you can think of that is reasonable]

then i guess they could offer like pakages and extras and shit you know like the 350Z, with like track, touring, and all different types. Some would have power everything and navigation while otheres have no power, no navigation.... I mean ya every model have a base model then others that a bit extra, so it comes down to it they even brought it back, what features and options that you could combine.

Th*GgEd_OuTtTt
03-14-2005, 09:36 PM
LOL SON, your mix n matching platforms, u obviously have no business/real world sence at all. Really out there how many people would be willing to invest in a light rwd car with no options, doens't an rsx cost 26g's base? type s going for 35? like that's not cheap at all kid, and to add rwd to that car would be at least 5 g's on top of msrp, and if it were a new car nissan woudnl't make anything, they might have high sales but make no profit, and the people buying it wouldn't be able to invest into it cuz since it's new the insurace would be too expensive. If you owned nissan u'd be the sole reason it'd go down. please don't make anything of urself, ur dreams make no sence.

logik23
03-14-2005, 09:37 PM
YEah, they could have all the options in the world, but they would need the option of a base model with no shit on it, like the Evo RS I think it is, doesn't even have a radio, just you, the engine and all 4 wheels.

Scope240
03-14-2005, 09:39 PM
ya i agree with you man, jsut gotta have options, like base model, no power anything, radio optional, a/c standard, and that about it, no rear seats make it 2 seater [raise insurence].... just gotta think options that sound reasonable, then have like the track model with like all the shit people want..

Th*GgEd_OuTtTt
03-14-2005, 09:41 PM
WOW, i thought this was a 240 forum, this is really a dreamers paradiase, you gotta look at the practical aspects of what your all saying, the reason they don't differ options on cars liek the rx8, 350z is cuz it'll lower the value of the car consideribly if you were able to pass of a 150hp car to a 300 hp car. i pray you kids don't get into business, u'll unrevolutionalize industry

logik23
03-14-2005, 09:43 PM
150hp to 300hp? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?? Are you even reading our fucking posts?? lol!! The Evo RS actually exist dude, it doesn'T have a radio!! lol, has the wiring but no speakers or headunit because people will buy aftermarket anyways!

Scope240
03-14-2005, 09:44 PM
ya so, give us a motor and a good chassie with suspention, say a 200hp motor, and just hope that there a good aftermarket parts for it, i think we all really just want a motor that is 50 state legal, and can be expanded.

Th*GgEd_OuTtTt
03-14-2005, 09:45 PM
like all the shit people want..
LOL remember the true tuner who wants to put their car on the track is only 5 - 10 % of the customers that are out there, their gonna reduce the value of their cars significantly just for 5 - 10% of their customers?

Hit_N_Run-player
03-14-2005, 09:46 PM
they should just make a cheap base model, if you want all that power/gay shit then you should have it tacked onto the options list. When we bought our 2004 tahoe, we asked if we could downgrade to non-pwer windows cuz my family doesnt want shit that will brake. But no, chevy says it comes standard now and thats how they make you pay more for shit you dont need. I think they could produce just a base model S16 that only has what you would need to drive, and anything else would be an "option". And if you think its bad for nissan, its not because they could actually produce what the customer wants with the options they actually use.

And i think the 350z would be a hell of lot more badass if it had an inline 6 instead of the V series.

Seriously, you guyz gotta really think about the practical aspects for the automotive companies, what companie would gamble with something like this dream car your talking about, more people will buy it and tune it, crash it. Until insurance companies refuse to insure the car anymore, you guyz don't think at all. and it's cheaper in a manufacturing line to keep the line going and have all the power options standard since the majority of people who purchase cars want those options. U guys need to be slapped with a business degree

It's the dumbing down of society, like in Canada, people are to fucking stupid and lazy to turn their headlights on at night so they added DRL (Daytime Running Lights) which are like half headlights that are on all the time, even when you turn all lights off, but then people didn't want to turn their lights on because they thought they were already on, but they didnt realize that the gauges werent lit, so they had "always on" dash lights made manditory in Canada, now people drive around without rear lights at night and I almost hit this one fucker who was going like 30mph on the fucking highway in the left hand lane, anyways, people suck and they make companies make shitty products.

Hit_N_Run-player
03-14-2005, 09:53 PM
they dont need to put it toward the track customer just because it doesnt come with all those options. When they go to buy the car, they should go through and check off everything they want. The plane base model chassis/engine/such could be a set price, and as they tach on the options the price would go up for each option that the customer had requested. Whats wrong with that idea?

Because people are to stupid to realize that the more standard options there are, the higher the base price is, the more options there are, the lower the base price is, they want everything included, so if you had a 50,000$ car with everything standard or a 40,000$ car with everything as an option but if you put every option it would go to 45,000$ people would think the 50,000$ one is cheaper because everything is standard, people are fucking stupid.

Daytime Running lights were added because people woudlnt' turn on their headlights at 6pm when it start s gettin dark, in the mid 80's there were alot of accidents related to people not being able to see parked cars on the side of the road that were idleing. has something to do with the Bell Repair vans that were gettin smahsed because no one could see them clearly

hmmmm i have a 240 with no power options!!!! Thats right i hand crank the windows. Doing a 70 mph passenger side window crank is the sweetness!!!! this kid has no point. you can always get a car with the base options. Its just now adays the base options are better because well the technology gets better...so the high dollar options of yesterday are the base options of today. I for one agree with logik and see his point. My powerless s13 has the same potential as my fully loaded SE s13. It's kinda like comparing the g35 to the r35 when it comes out. THe g35 is basic the r35 is balls out race car thats street tuned. So yea i guess this kid knows his business. I mean ferarri's are made to be daily driven but are yet performers. And yes they have a hefty price tag...which is what the buyer is expecting. But making a base model s16 would not be unlogical. They would have one. And what do you mean just pay an extra 10gs and get the 350z. Read your own words pal...10gs just isnt easy to come and throw away on a bigger car that has a v6. I would personally buy the s16 and have 10 gs left over. Then you could spend that 10gs on the s16 and have a better performing car than that 350z. But you contradict your own words. you say why not just pay an extra 10 gs for the 350z, but at the same time you say not to make a cheap model s16. Its like your saying to buy the more expensive car if you want performance...but then you say not to make a cheap version car because not many people want to "tune" there car for performance. So how can you say just to spend an extra 10 g's like its nothing, to get a better performing car, when you could just as easily buy the cheaper car and make it a better performing car than the more expensive one. You could make a better performer out of the cheaper car and still not spend as much as you would on the 350z. Keep in mind though your talking as if the person did want to tune there car. So if they did want to tune there car they might buy the 350z as it would have more potential than the s16. What it really comes down to is the person's wants and budget. This may seem confusing, as it would be easier to explain in person to person discussion.

this guy just fails to understand. If you have two 350z's. One fully loaded and the other totally base...suckiest of the sucky. The base one is obviously cheaper. Like i said, it depends on what the fuck the person wants the car for. If it was going to be a family vacation vehicle then yes i would get all the god damn options availabe...shit put a fucking microwave in there. But if im going to buy a car to tune it...i want the suckiest of the sucky. Why spend an extra couple of grand on better stock rims, a 6 disc cd player, and all this other shit when i would take it all out???? I mean come on dude, for acting like your so smart you sure are one minded. You have to look at shit from both sides to get a full understanding.

damn everyone wants a piece of this one...

I have a hard time believing Nissan USA will ever sell a silvia. If anything it'll be like another 240. FR, light-weight, and naturally aspirated. But, with Carlos Ghosn as CEO... i HIGHLY doubt they will be taking the slightet chances with sports cars. He's already gone through the states and weeded out unnecessary dealerships and headquarters... they are trying for a purely simple-and-effective approach to bring Nissan back to it's feet. They just came out with the altima se-r which is above the spec-V... as for the FR.. the Z and the G35 coupe takes the cake. From basic economics... you can understand why they restrain using RWD layouts on lower class models.... it's economical yet gives the customer a sporty feel... that's the goal. People who are willing to pay for the Z / G35 know what they are getting.. hence, the desireable RWD layout.

i personally believe that most US companies don't have the balls to market premium sports cars. Why go through the trouble of making a NA 240 w/ the same body as a silvia/180 and then go and build another engine for it. This applies for many immigrated Japanese automobiles... Honda's, Mitsubishi's, Toyota's.... Japan marketed FR, lightweight, intercooled turbo coupes in the fukin' 80s!!! where was the US?

and so you think it's about time it comes out? no way.. nissan was at crisis a few years ago... they don't have the cushion to cover up for any failures now. Plus, they are already proposing the '07 infiniti GT-R for the present G35... that's their gamble (i believe)... not a "S16."

VQuick
03-14-2005, 11:08 PM
What would really help would be if Nissan had some incentive to make the chassis. A smaller FM variant would be great. The big FM is called the FR-L, so we'll just call this small one FR-S.

In order to make the car a four seater like the old Silvias(better for insurance, etc), the best bet would probably be to make the S16 like a mini G35 coupe. That means a coupe. Sorry, hatch fans. The roofline of a hatch like the 350Z might not work well for rear passengers. You'd end up with a repeat of the New Beetle, where folks hit their head on the rear glass.

Nissan almost certainly wouldn't develop it for just one car, however. In addition to the S16 coupe, FR-S vehicles could include a sedan...new 510, anyone? It could be a mini-G35, a good BMW 1-series competitor, as well as for other vehicles that are not rwd. Include a small suv, as well. This helps Nissan stretch their investment further. It also provides a cool lineup that will give Scion something to think about.

As for a powerplant, the QR25 will probably be the most practical. The SR20DET has been long gone. I'm not even sure if the cleaner NEO-VVL SRs are still around. I'd like to see a revvy VQ25 used, but it's not certified for US use, and is heavier than the QR. The QR25DE will make a nice base engine. Perhaps the turbo version shown in the Nissan Azeal concept could be used for a hotter version.

I don't know what the car would be called in the US, so I'll just refer to it as the Silvia.

The cheapest model, the "Silvia J's," could have a 175hp QR25DE with a 5sp manual and 4sp auto. Maybe 15-inch alloys. Not many amenities on it. Options can be cheap, so customers can load up the car if they want it that way. Start pricing at maybe $18k.

Next is the midlevel "Silvia Q's," with the most potential for luxury. It comes with a few more amenities as standard. Leather is available. Maybe add a front lip, rear spoiler, and 17-inch cast wheels. Could sat nav be an option? The 230hp(just throwing a number out) turbo motor could be an option. This model can go up kinda high in price. Let's just say the ceiling would be $24k.

Last is the "Silvia K's," the car most of us would be interested in. The turbo engine is standard, with a 6sp manual. No leather, sat nav, etc. Offer a 'NISMO Track Pack' for the folks who want a little more performance. The dealer-installed 'Track Pack' includes a NISMO lsd, forged 17-inch Rays and 4-piston Brembo calipers lifted from the 350Z. Admittedly, a carbon fiber driveshaft and grippier seats would be great, but they would probably drive up the price quite a bit.

How does that sound?

LOL nice examples, that really touched me orestes, okay do you guyz every think in perspective of the corporation itself? it's not realistic to create a cheap car with all the different options, yes the majority of domestic manufactures have various cars w/ all sorts of options, but no one's gonna buy into a japanese car w/ the quality, yet the car doesn't retain it's value. It's really simple all u guyz bash me cuz i don't "dream" like you guys. I'm realistic, nissan would never front the money where there woudln't high profits and high sales. No rwd sports car would be sold for less than 25g's, if nissan ever did decide to put money into manufacutring a nible rwd sports car it would be high quality. Just not a good market out there. People these days either want high quality or a P.O.S they can drive around, really how many se-r's do you see? if the tacked on 5g's to the price tag for RWD would there be more on the road? i dbout it. And how many people can pull 10g's outta their pocket for mods? Keep bashing dreamers

Hey man why dont u just take your .11 post per day and get outta here man. You've been a member since Aug. of 02 and you decide to drop one tenth of your total input into this thread. Just leave man. Really what do you get out of this?? It's a forum to discuss shit, and were discussing hypothetical shit about Nissan's so there, thats that.

and why couldnt it be less than 25g???? And thugged out. Now you say how many people can pull out 10gs to mod. Well there, before you said "why not just spend an extra 10g's for the 350z". Now you understand that 10gs is hard to come buy. Once again you contradict your own words......tisk tisk. And i think that japan maybe becoming more american friendly in the car seen. I mean they are bringing over the skyline, am i right. Plus like i said before, the article i read about the s16 said the s16 would possibly be released because drifting is so huge. So thats there idea right there.

O yea and too the person talking about the 07 gt-r. Keep in mind this is infiniti, yes same as nissan, but i think they almost treated as two different companies here stateside, so even though nissan would benefit, nissan america doesnt. Also you say how they have weeded out unecessary dealerships....well all i can say to that is they just tore the old one down and made a fat ass huge nissan dealership in its place. So i guess i cant relate on that issue. Truth is we'll have to wait and see what happens, until then this thread is pointless.

^ yea that was posted on this thread a while back... that "240 concept" is ugly.

as for the nissan offices closing down.. i know that for a fact. When i was back in Hawaii... i actually saw one close down after Carlos Ghosn came down to visit. I read on the paper... he just came by... decided it was useless and bam.. gone. From what i know he hasn't built any new ones...

infiniti is nissan... both company's get their cars from the same place... nissan japan. It's just broken up to two different classes. Just like we all know... toyota < Lexus... honda < acura.

it's just a way to sell similar cars simultaneously and it wouldn't be a waste. Nissan Japan never had the "sentra"... it was the sunny.. which was a lil different... anyway, nissan usa can sell the 1.8 / 2.0 litre sentras... and infiniti sold the G20(this was a few years back)... they are both FWD with a sr20de or the 1.8de. If they didn't create two companies... it would be pointless to market two cars at the same time... which were exactly the same... so by classifying it under different names they can now sell just as much... people wouldn't know the difference here. (except for enthusiasts like us... and the similar)

anyway, your right... we don't know and can't say shiet until something does come out.
