Having glanced through the forum, I am impressed with the knowledge out there, so I would appreciate any help you can give me.

I recently got my hands on a 91 Firebird with a seized engine, working automatic transmission, solid body, ultra clean interior. I thought about just rebuilding the V6 that was in it, then along came my brother-in-law. He called me one day and told me he was standing there, looking at a 305HO out of a early 90's Camero, carburated, running (since then I have heard it and seen it) for 400.00 cash with the tranny as well.

Couldn't resist so I bought it. Now I have a car and an engine to put in it.

I know there are kits available to bolt the 350's and 305's to the factory tranny from that year model Firebird so although I may swap the tranny as well (makes the most sense), I am curious of a reputable site/company/brand name that I can get the kits from. Also curious to know if there are any special problems that I can expect to encounter, or at least be prepared to encounter. If I need to replace the exhaust manifolds, the same info on them would be greatly appreciated.

Most importantly, if what I am trying to do is equivalent to sticking a round peg into a square hole, feel free to tell me that too!!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Michael

congratulations about trying to keep your car alive. i would check all those specialists, a lot of addresses can be found in the pontiac magazines and the gm high performance mag, the later might give you the best starting point, as it deals more with the later f bodys...

actually, speaking from experiance, i would stick with the stock trany that came behind the V6, reason being, its just a better set up... plus you dont have to worry about the interrior, and it should bolt up to your 305 just fine... however that is you choice...
you said the 305 was had a carb. was the 6 shooter also? or was it fuel injected... your also going to need new fuel pump and lines too... also a new comp., and yes you'll need exaust manifolds for the 305, but they should fit right up to the pipes that are in there... this might seem like a lot, but its really not that big of a project, and pretty enexpencive (if you are planning on doing it yourself, i dont know what it would be to have a garage do it...) but in any event, good luck to ya man... let us know how it turns out...

Well the stock tranny will work if you plan on leaving the motor stock, but once you start add HP (at least in most normal cars) the V6 tranny wont hold up.

BTW: Congrats on ur firebird. I myself have a 92 V6.
