No 3rd, Overdrive and Reverse Gears

What is wrong with a car that won't go faster than 40 mph and won't shift into 3rd or overdrive and it won't go into reverse. Are all of these gears bad? or could it be something else? It is a 1995 Olds 88 FWD.

I would say your car should go faster than 40 in 2nd. My 1990 88 goes 45 in 1st Maybe they changed a lot.. I would say its bad geasrs. Get it rebuilt.
