2G Eclipse RS -- What do I need to support 500+HP?

I've got a '98 Eclipse RS. I've purchased a crate motor from HowellAutomotive with the 2.2L stroker kit, and forged internals. I'm currently installing a 25G turbo. I'm hoping for close to 500 whp.
I know that the frame needs to be braced (roll cage, etc.) and a ton of work has to be done to the drive train. I need some help identifying the weak spots in my car. Please include any info, links, etc. Thanks!!
BTW... I know I could buy a Mustang and mod that for cheaper, but there's something about a 2G eclipse that can't be beat by any other car on the road... unfortunately it's not my quarter mile time!

It sounds like you're doing things right, for the way you're doing them. I don't understand why you wouldn't want to start with the 4g63 and an awd platform in a GSX, but to each his own.

I'd give a kidney, and maybe my first born, for a 2G Eclipse GSX! I couldn't find one anywhere... But I've concidered a 4G63 conversion and then buying all the parts to convert it to AWD. However, I don't have the time necessary to finish that project.
Unrelated to that, I'm looking at a turbo upgrade for my kit. I heard something about a massive turbo that doesn't spool until 6000rpm, but some manufacturer (Greddy maybe) stuck on an electric motor to help it spool sooner. ...I'm not going to pioneer anything, so let me know if anybody's attempted this. Thanks!

A buddy of mine about 3 streets over from me is selling his 2G GSX on ebay right now, I'm not sure what it's up to currently but he'll take 2500 for it and it runs mint. (It's an automoatic though) :rolleyes:
lol You'll easily pass 500WHP with a 25G turbo but you'll also have to have a fuel management system, over 600+ cc injectors, fuel pump, 3in exhaust and make sure you port out your O2 sensor housing or you're going to experience turbo creep, also.. You want to run your boost as high as possible with a larger turbo and I personally would've gone with a ball-bearing turbo for quicker spool. Don't forget about a cooler thermostat and better cooling fans a long with a front mount intercooler. Ignition and Intake.. bla bla ect. If you're going 500+ hp it's better to go with a electronic boost controller, a MBC is more accurate but can only handle so much. Get as much fuel to your engine as possible so you don't run lean- creating detonation. I'm sure you already know most of this but u asked.... lol ; )

Your going to need say 950's to keep it in perspective. It's going to take a while to spool that turbo, but since yours is a 2.2l, it will be a 'lil shorter.

Xavier, you're right about the cost of this project... I'd rather start with a manual, just for the sake of time! And I've already purchased the 420A engine and turbo kit, so I'd rather just stick with my current car. AWD is nice, especially for the Michigan weather, but it also adds a couple hundred lbs.
Angel, I didn't even think about the O2 housing. What about the drive train? I've already ordered a better clutch. What are the limits of the half-shaft, etc.? Don't worry about mentioning the basics... throw some links in here if it's mentioned someplace in the forum that I missed. Thanks again!

I don't know of other topics regarding this but.... Here are two of the best sites around in my opinion for parts and info to help you out, start with Haun first! ;)

This is what I've decided as far as the drivetrain:
-- LSD (http://www.quaifeamerica.com/differentials/diffs.htm)
* $1300
-- Axles - Stage V (http://www.driveshaftshop.com/item135637.ctlg)
*Good for 750Hp
* $1800 (I think)
-- ACT 2600lb clutch
* $300
I may also need some things like shift forks and stronger gears... Let me know if anybody here knows about transmission parts. I have the stock 5spd manual. Thanks for the help so far!

I will sell you my GSX, IF you are still interested. I live in Muskegon MI. I got a new intake system for it and everything is fine. They are rare as heck.. This car actually scares me...you can't drive it slow...it's impossible.. you can hear the turbo from a good distance cause it's strong...and I had an idea of putting a studded tube for the recirculation kit so it sounds SO MUCH BETTER...unfortunately...I'm tired of going from 0-60 in 5.4 seconds and being tempted to go 145+ MPH everytime I want to go get a gallon of milk...so please let me know if you want to buy one still. [email protected].
(Oh, it's a 95 GSX M/t)

I have a similar kit (2.2 stroker) on my gs, but I went through faster than you, to get mine. I also got their race head. but they don't seem to do any buisness any more. I already had a turbo on mine (hahn stage 2) but I went and got a better fmic. I am in the procces of repinning my ecu for Dsmlink. (fingers crossed) and changing my 550 injectors to go larger. But when I got the motor broke in and made my first pull, and made my adjustments It was scary as hell compared to my what it was before .That was cranked to around 15 psi though (no times yet but it looks promising) I am thinking around 375 to 400hp when I get finished but I am not good at guessing these kinda things and I am to broke to get it dynoed. I think you got a decent start. But let me tell ya you got your work cut out for ya. It's funny though this was the one I originaly got for looks but now it's faster than my lightly modded gsx. so its got the full package now. And yes, before any one says it again (I would have been faster in the gsx if I put that money in it)
