Ok, Yesterday I decided to change my water pump. I knew it was going to take a while. So when I finally got it out much to my surprise I couldnt remove the fan from the water pump. I checked the mauals, went to autozone.com, went to autozone, nothing. SO I wanted to know if anybody could help me. Its a 96 chevy blazer 4.3 2wd.

Welcome to the forum. Go buy yourself a Haynes or Chilton manual. They are helpfull with stuff like this.

It is threaded on to the end of the water pump shaft, it's much easier to remove it with the water pump still in the vehicle and the belt on. Just use a large wrench, and tap it loose with a hammer, the tapping will break it loose.

Go to autozone and get their Ford fan clutch removal tool (under their load-a-tool) it will come right off.

I picked up a fan clutch removal tool, and now my question is... how do you use it? I see it has the wrench that fits perfectly to the big bolt. now whats the other short fork tool for? without a handle i dont see how it works, or even where it goes...

by the way this is for a 4wd 96 blazer

Had the same problem. I was going on a trip and just had pep boys replace it for labor. Asked the guy how he got it off. Said they use an air chisel with a flat chisel on it. He said to leave the belt on for resistance. A couple of trigger pulls and it comes right off.

I said Ok.
