Cali. car now in Tex.

I just bought a '95 M3 from a friend in SoCal. I live in Texas and was wondering what if any difference in smog control equipment would be on a California car as compared to one sold new in Texas.
Also, if the car will not be registered in California again, can I remove the extra smog equipment and realize some performance increase.
