Take it for what you will...
i was sleeping when i got the call...at 2:45pm my friend called me from the vestal parkway, telling me that there was a horrific car accident that happened.he described in detail how a 3000Gt was wrapped litteraly around a telephone pole. after he hung up i had a strange feeling it might be someone i know. i started thinking who might drive a 3000GT around here when it clicked...my friend jodee was bragging a couple of weeks before about how he was going to pick up this "hot ride..." a 3000GT. a second later i got another phone call from my friend steve, who coincidental called me up to tell me that jodee was in a bad accident...i was in complete shock. steve did not know himself how bad the accident really was....steve asked if i wanted to go to the hospital to see him, i didnt go but told him periodically update me on jodee's condition....at around 7:30PM jodee was pronounced dead in wilson hospital's trama unit....
i talked to my friend alex that same day and he told me he saw the accident as it happened. he was across the street when he heard this car flying towards his direction at about 100mph. he didnt pay any mind to it untill he heard the skids, and the tremendous boom. at that point he turned around to see the car mangled around the telephone pole. about 30 seconds later cops showed up and had the scene blocked off. the car hit so hard that the telephone pole split all the way up. the rear bumper was touching the front fender thats how hard the collision was....worse, the impact was on the drivers side door...after 30 minutes the fire department was able to free jodee from the wreckage, where they quickly transported him to the hospital. he had massive trauma to the brain, it was hemoraging in 3 spots. he also had a two compound fractures. one to his left femur and another somewhere on his arm. from these injuries his blood loss was profuse, but the physicians still thought it was possible to save him...until they found out he had a severally punctured lung. on impact one of his ribs broke and punctured threw his lung and was causing severe internal bleeding. it was so much that inevitably his blood pressure dropped off and killed him...
i myself was once an advocate of street racing, its a shame that an incident like this was what it took to set me strait...
for anyone that hasn't had this happen to them yet, i hope it will prove as a lesson as to what street racing can do.
for anyone who has never had to hear a voice message left on their phone of a crying mother on her way to the hospital to see her son, then i hope this is proves a lesson
for anyone who hasn't seen the anguish, the denial that this boys mother was feeling in the trauma center, then again hope this is proves a good lesson.
eventhough i dont really know any of you personally out here, i really want to send a message that street racing isn't cool, and isnt worth dying for. so next time you go out to race someone...just think of the consequences...not only of yourself dying but what it will do to those who know you...

I'll probably get banned for saying this for sounding like someone with no sympathy, but all these posts are preaching to the choir. Many post like this have came up, and I don't believe it has stopped anyone. If you know the limits of your car, the road, the conditions, and know when you know to back off of a dumbass driver then I don't believe your chances of wrecking are any higher then speeding in traffic (which everyone has done). Atleast the people who aren't ignorant know this, and their are "educated" street racers here. The only thing that would stop anyone here from street racing is something personal happening to them. I'm not trying to downplay your message, just putting in my :2cents: All statements aside these are grim reminders of what happens when you overstep your bounds, and I'm sorry you experienced such a thing.

Jesus man, sorry to hear that. No car is safe against a pole at that kind of speed. People should get to know their cars before they race in them. Racing will inevitably take lives when people let the adrenaline get to their heads and don't stop to think like they should, we've all been in that mindset. Everyone looses their head a bit when they first start racing, I still do but I try to think of things beforehand like traffic and turns and what not. Again sorry to hear about your friend, shit like this should never happen, people need to know when to let off the gas... maybe that wisdom only comes with experience.

this may sound cold harded, but so what? I mean honestly, i really dont care if some stupid kid runs his car into a pole at 100MPH. Mainly because he did it to himself. There are so many more worse things in the world to worry about, i really dont care. Lets look at all the people getting blown up in Iraq, all the starving children in the world, murders, rapist, terrorist, canadians. I mean seriously, i dont give a rats ass. So what he died cause he was doing something. Let me find an article about a man who chokes to death on a chicken bone, you going to stop eating chicken?
Death is a part of life, your all going to die sometime and their is nothing you can do to prevent it.

Pretty much what I was gonna say. People die, it sucks. Plus the kid probably couldn't handle the car at 100, so he did it to himself.

Well, I believe in quality over quantity. I'd rather live a short, fulfilled, happy life. Than a long, unfulfilled boring life.

I read that story, and it just made me think. I just got into the whole street racing deal a couple months ago, and I love it. Its one of the few things that make this life worth living, and I do it regardless of the fact that I knew someone who died street racing. My brother died Aug. 2004, when he crashed at about 120mph. He was racing his bike, and though it wasnt a car, it is all in the same. He went out doing something that he loved. After that, he became my motivation to race. This may all sound pretty damn sappy, but all I am saying is that these stories we hear, are not all bad. In most cases, they went out doing what they loved, otherwise they wouldnt have been going that fast. Im sure they wouldnt have wanted to go any other way.

most street racers don't do stupid things to get them selves killed. also you never stated if the kid was racing or not. he seems to be just stupid and crashed by himself which is a good thing casue he didn't kill anyone else with him for being stupid. me and my friends hardly ever street races, and we always get bad feelings. we will never race in a area we are not familar with, and we will never race beyond the limits of our cars.
bottom line, the kid probrably got killed by speeding, not from racing. totally irrelavent to street racing forum.
