a 94 dodge intrepid 3.5L with 170 K miles, blowing fuses on the module , 20 amp engine control, where to look for the short or ground if that's the problem.no visible wire defects, but i didn't do a thorough check. also the transmission don't go in reverse until a few runs and shut downs, level is good.

your main power wire that goes to the PCM is shorted to ground, thus the constant blown fuses. And with the transmission fluid, when it was serviced the last time, did you use Mopar ATF +4?

Is the PCM the group of fuses and relays in the engine compartment? and how to locate the main power wire? sorry iam asking al these questions cause my car is parked some distance from where i live i wouldn't go work on it till this weekend.about the tranny it's a rebuilt with about 25k miles, am not concerned about that since i know iam due for a power flush, cause i also suspect that it's only fluid related, don't know if Mopar ATF+4 was used, eventhough it cost me 1400 big ones to rebuild.Had the car for 5 years, i believe i got my money back out that car for the price i paid back in 2000.

what you are refering to is the power distribution center. The PCM should be mounted on the driver's side fenderwell, should have about 120 wires going to it.

Replace the coil that is what worked on mine exact same problem, same fuse kept blowing, don't use the brand autozone sells .WELLS brand got two bad coils in a row. Now have a carquest coil .

Problem solved, but don't know if it'll keep working, i called a buddy of mine that called his buddy, and said to remove the fuel pump relay and shut down relay while the key is on,put the fuse back in,than the fuel pump relay first followed by the shut down , the fuse didn't blow , car started . i don't know what made it work but that's what i did. my fear is how long it'll hold, i don't wanna pay for anymore towing charges...and what coil should i replace? and to my amazment again , the tranny didn't act up i was able to go in reverse...how long that is going to hold also? just too many issues with this car, in addition to a constant oil light that refuses to go away, haven't replced the sender yet, and didn't do a pressure test, the car doesn't over heat, and the level is good.
