real bad day for my 88

today i was driving and the amp light came on and stayed on for the longest time but for a few months now its been flickering on and off like theres a short somewhere and then i start going from a stop light and the service engine soon light came on and the infl.rest light came on along with the amp light and it felt like it barley wanted to move then i started going up a hill it felt like an inconsistant ammount of fuel was getting in and the idle was going up and down when i was hitting the gas then it stalled out and died until i jumped it and got it home when it crapped out again with all the same lights on

i have a 1992 oldsmobile eighty eight royalle
i changed the altinator this passed summer due to a similar problem less the other lights just the amp light

any help would be greatly appriciated

which sort of altnerator did you put in???

also when was the battery last changed and how many times has it run down before???

i put a new altinator in and a new battery in july and didnt have any problems until yesterday with it i drive it almost everyday and i dont see how the battery could have gone dead or the altinator gone bad

many gm cars not just the 3.8 have had the alterantors fail more than 4 times in a 100,000 mile period. They were too small and were not cooled well enough. A better idea this time around would be to replace it with a a 140amp alternator.

where did you purchase it? It should have a 1 year or lifetime warranty....

i bought it at my local advanced auto parts or whatever its called in july so im hoping theres a warenty on it
maybe it died because i got a new higher wattage radio put in and maybe it drains alot more battery or something
if there is a warrenty and it is the radio is there anyway i can get the alternator with the higher watts?

hey well id like to thank you for your help i changed my altinator today and it turns out that the ground wire for it was grounding out on the engine that possibly could have done it but i replaced it with another remanufactured piece of s**t hopefully this one doesnt die on me. They wouldnt give me the warrenty because the store just got baught over and they eraced all the computer records and i did not have the reciept unfortionatly. Also the altinator with more wattage would not fit according to them because its larger but anyways simple job thanks for your help

no just say you have a heated winshield I think is what it is called. or say you have a 1996 pontiac bonneville SSEi supercharged w/heated winshield is I think is what it is at advance/checker

in the majorly of this kind of similar cases the sensors are not working properly, in special the mass sensor and/or TBS, other cause can be the electrical conections or vacumm hoses for those sensors.
