I've got a 99 3000gt sl, and I've recently changed my battery out cause I needed new one. And what I didn't know was that my radio had a security code feature. After disconnecting power source to the radio by any means, it requires a 4 digit code in order to use the radio again. And, I also didn't know that after attempting to input 3 codes that I thought were the most common combinations (ie 0000, 1234) it locked me out. SO, my car manual said if the radio locks you out you have to call a mitsubishi dealer to be told how to unlock it. And I'm sure that someone in here knows how to unlock that, cause I know the dealer is probably gonna give me the run around. As a last thought, I've already tried disconnecting the battery again, I took it off for 5 minutes, and the radio still is locked, so I thought that maybe I didn't give it enough time for some energer reserve to drain, and left it disconnected all night. Still didn't work, so if anyone has a solution, please let me know, thanks!

You should be able to call the dealer and get the info without a problem. However, if they do give you trouble, there are people on 3si.org that can help you out.

Golfpro over at 3SI has a hookup and will do it for you, but he will ask you to become a paying member. If you ask him specifically he'll tell you who to call to get it and you can do it yorself, just tell them your from 3SI. Also use the search feature, there is a thread with a listing of some 3SI friendly dealers who will give you the code.

Sorry, I neglected to mention that after inputing the code incorrectly 3 times, and being locked out, I found the code written on one of the pages in my car manual, so knowing the code isn't the problem, I just need to know how to get it so that I can input the code again. Thanks

To unlock, you need to leave the car on with the drivers door open for an hour...if I remember correctly...it sucks, but it is the only way. So just park it in your garage, and let it run...and watch it to make sure nobody steals it (I'm sure Young will agree with this one...Young how is the Vette by the way?)

Yep its ridiculuos, but that's how it is...you can do a search, I know someone asked this before and Yogs answered, but as far as I remember, the car must be on, the door must be open and it has to run for an hour...its one of those stupid security features Mitsu really didn't fully think through :)

Ok, problem is solved, and my radio is back to normal now. The car running and door open actually worked, and I thought I was going crazy when I head that technique. Anyways, my last comment.....For some reason, my radio unlocked after only 30 mins with the door open, go figure ehh... Thanks for the advice everyone, as usual AF's members are freakin awesome!!!

Just a side note for future reference: You don't have to leave the door open, the ignition has to be in the ON position for an hour. It doesn't have to be an hour straight, just total. I just drove around for an hour when this happened to me.

true. what Twizted said is correct. it happened to me once. just leave the key in the ignition in the "on" position for an hour, then the radio security feature will reset.

Does the car have to be on? Or just the ignition on on? :o/

no, just the ignition must be in the "on" position. you don't have to start the car, just turn the key to "on".
