Still Unknown Quit Issue

A previous post I was asking about fuel pressure for wifes 97 4.3 Jimmy. Wifes description of what happened when it would quit was poor and I could not get it to quit for me. So in the last week I've been tracking down any fuel issue until last night it finally did quit for me. The motor was cold (But its been hot & quit for the wife), even pulling a slight grade with pretty good excelleration. It quit just like the key was turned off, which leads me to believe its an electrical problem and not fuel related. At this time I am checking the obvious (Loose wires, connectors, etc. under the hood). Any typical problems to look for would be greatly appreciated. No engine codes and it starts right up. Also my son started it this morning and mention it was harder to start. It always in the past fired and ran smooth instantly. He said it started for a couple seconds, died, then restarted again.

Just an update: Couldn't find anything loose. Pulled on everything imaginable under the hood with it running with no problems found. I did create a "Check Engine" light by pulling the EGR plug off with it running. I did a scan and only the egr code I created was seen. I drove the car another 20 miles and it didin't quit. But the way my luck goes, I'm sure it will when the wife take it to work tomorrow. Just for shits & giggles I'm still gonna clean the egr & replace the original fuel filter since I already have the filter & egr gasket here. Still any recommendations would be appreciated.

Did you check the fuel pressure? You mentioned that you were asking about it, did you actually check it?

Thanks for your reply. But not yet have I been able to pick up the right shrader adapter for my pressure guage. Wife drove my truck to work today so I could look at it further today.

Although I did get to go out & start it today after sitting all night to find that it now has to crank several times before it fires & runs. (It would really help if she had given me a better description). I've always had it fire right up. So now maybe it is fuel related.

At this point cause the time I am available is limited, I'm gonna replace the fuel filter I already have. Then pickup another fuel pressure guage or proper fitting for mine and check the pressure.

I been putting off fixing a really really tiny coolant leak at the front of the intake until warmer weather. Even though it ain't yet warmer weather this would be the time to fix that too if it turns out to look like the fuel pressure regulator is going south.

Between her car & my son's s-10 problems lately driving me nuts. And still got ball joints on the list to do on hers (Already did the hood rattle fix that worked (Thanks again for that one BlazerLT)).

This truck only has 77K miles on it and seems like its rapidly falling apart. Geezz, my 2000 Sonoma got 140K and not one issue (Knock on wood). Maybe cause I drive the piss outta that one.

Anyhow, after seeing all the junk & crud that came out of the old filter, it's a wonder it ran at all. I'll know for sure after it sits all night.

Replace your ignition switch !

Replace your ignition switch !

He stated it was a clogged fuel filter and had low fuel pressire, WTF does the ignition switch have to do with fuel pressure???? :screwy:
