How do I get max potential

I own a 90 buick century with two 12" subs in the trunk in a sealed box. My question is how do I get them to pound at their full potential? The only thing that I know it they are being pushed by a 420 watt amp and I have that bridged. the box takes up about half of the trunk so I was wondering why does it take up all this room and doesn't make hardly enough sound for 2 12" subs? ANY help/suggestions would be appreciated.

My thoughts are: It is a sealed box and small amp which makes it quieter that you expected.

It's a sealed box most likely...am i correct?
Honestly, It's ALL in the box...
My suggestion is, let me design you a custom ported enclosure for your needs. I'll include ALL specs of the box, a precise cut-sheet including the exact size of ALL pieces needed to construct the box, a sketch, as well as the answer to any question you may have after receiving the design. My designs are $15 via paypal. All i need is what exact subwoofers you have, the amplifier, and your maximum dimensions you can fit into the car (fit in from the trunk, or slide in from rear seats) in terms of Width, Height, Depth. LMK, this will GREATLY increase your output, and will sound great. peace

what brand and model are the subs?
what brand/ model is the amp?
is the 420 watt a max power rating or RMS rating?
and yeah go ported and it might be easiest to pay NG for the designs.. otherwise shopes charge liek 1-200 bucks for a custom ported box.

If you are near Columbus, instead of paying $15 for just plans, pay $45 for a complete, competition grade enclosure. I'll need to know exactly what kind of music you like to listen to, make and model of your subs and amp, and also the rough demensions of your trunkspace. All of that info is crucial in making the most out of your system.
The quick easy way is to make sure your subs are not 180 out of phase from the rest of your system. Also, point them towards the rear of the car.

the subs are some wierd shit called powerbass, they have a big ass PB in the cone and a few dots, I've never heard of them. The amplifier is a soundstorm vanquish 420.2 bridged out to be 840 watts, as far as the box goes it is a prefabricated type box. the odd thing about these subs is they sound like ass with the trunk open but sound pretty good with the trunk closed and when you are inside of the car. I want people to hear me coming damnit, but you can hardly hear the subs or the trunk rattling from 5 feet away. I have them facing the back of the trunk because if I face them fowards they sound like ass on the interior too. I'm about ready to throw them into a creek or something.
hey ponchonutty (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=94610) if you are talking about Columbus Mississippi I live about a half hour or so from there. My dad also works over there.

Sorry, Columbus Ohio. Anyway, unfortunately for you, you are probably getting all you can get out of that setup. The only other thing would be to possibly build a custom box. That being said though you'd be wasting money. Your system is pretty bottom basement stuff.

I have a set of JL Audio W/0 subs but when I took them outta their last vehicle I thought that they were blown because they sounded like shit, they did beat the glass outta my blazer but they wouldn't outbeat a set of good 6X9's when I took them out. I took them out of the box today and found nothing freaking wrong with them!
Cone looks practically new
Spider is fine
I didn't hear a voice coil rattling when I shook them
And basically there is NO reason they shouldn't work
Unless there is something I overlooked
I'm gonna re-wire the box later and try to use the soundstorm to push them, which it should, I had a 280 watt MTX RT series amp pushing them before and they did break the glass outta my blazer so a stronger amp should make them drum harder or blow the rest of the way. I'm not sure what went wrong with them, any suggestions would be nice! These were my hardest hitting subs now they are believed to be crap.

What's the crossover point you have them at? What kind of box, premade? Also, did you have them both hooked up correctly? They weren't out of phase were they?

one side of the amp is/was burned up so i had them bridged. they were in a premade truck box, as far as the crossover point I don't know WTF you are talking about there. I had the amp set on LPF Oh yeah it was a RT2200 but the amp has sort of burned up before, it simply quit working so I took the system out and put it up on the shelf, then one day I decidied to hook it back up for the hell of it and it worked just fine for about 3 months then it quit again, same case over and over so now that is sittin on the shelf for now, and like as always before I'm wanting to hook it back up again.
