I have a 79 T/A with a 305 Chevy in it (damn the second owner when he yanked the 403)! Well now I'm going to do a little yanking of my own. If you did read the other posts that I enlisted in this forum, everyone agrees that I should put a 400 Pontiac engine back in this car.I wanted to do this anyway. Now that i have that problem figured out, I have one more plea. How can I make my 2nd generation go a little fast without considering engine mods, which I'll take care of. My goal is to have a minimum 400HP. What can I do with by means of gearing, tires, exhaust, suspension, and etc... to make it run a little faster. It has a 4-speed by the way.

get some decent headers, and as far as the suspension is concerned, make sure your rear springs are not broken and for the front, hal shocks, now qa1 makes a sweet coil over conversion with adjustable shocks(got in on my 79).

Assuming you want quicker acceleration then top speed:
Street Gears 3.50
Drag Gears 3.73
As Ive said in other posts, 4.10 gears and youll be burning gallons per mile.

Why not put a 455 in there? I'm considering doing that with mine.

I'd go with the 400 (which I'm doing) because the main caps are stronger. There are stroker kits to take a 400 to 462 if you want to.

Well you gotta admit the T/A 6.6 stock was as powerful as the latter year 455; and there is plently of potential in the 400's; just thought I'd toss the 455 idea in there.

I like the idea of a stroker kit for the engine. Where could I find the kit to do this? Would Summit have it or Performance Automotive Warehouse?? Do you have any clue how much they cost(I'm guessing around $2K)? It sounds totally worth it for this car, and the frame will definitely have to be beefed up :evillol: . Send me a link if you find any....Thanks

I believe I saw them in a PAW catalog before, Summit and Jegs don't list them, grab a copy of the latest High Performance Pontiac in ther you will find all sorts of engine kits...

Before you start going nuts on buying stuff, I suggest getting "How to build Max-Performance Pontiac V8's" by Jim Hand. Lots of good reading there.
I picked it up from Amazon for $13-$14.
