Work in progress: Supra

I've been building a Toyota Supra lately.
It is the second car I make...

It is mostly box stock but I did some minor modifications, like bigger muffler tip and chrome shifter.

Body is not done yet because there was a whisker in the paint, so I had to sand it and stuff.
I will show a picture of it later.

Here you see the interior.
I painted it kaki, strange color for an interior but it came out okay I think.
Chrome shifter comes from a ruined Burago Testarossa Diecast.

Here you see that I had to sand the hood in order to make it fit.

This is the engine, it has no mods, only two wires installed for battery.

The undercarriage...

And this is the custom built exhaust.
Kind of big, I know, but its okay I think.
It actually is the top of a ball point pen painted TS17 Gloss Aluminium... :eek7:

Very good for a 2nd model! The interior is sweet.

What colour is the body going to be and did you paint the under side?

One thing though, if the exhaust tip is bigger than the mufler, something is wrong:D

The body will be TS-17, Gloss Aluminium.

And yes, the exhaust tip is way too big, I know...

I can still build larger muffler though.

What do you mean by the under side?
If you mean the undercarriage, yes, it's painted (revell no. 96 metal).

Comparing the scale of the rims to the exhaust, thats roughly a 8-12" exhaust. Way to big.

Should be a cool project.

Thanks for your comments.

Yes, I know, that exhaust is too large, but I like it, so I will keep it.
My next model will have a smaller tip.

The engine isn't very detailed yet because it's work in progress :)
It engine has been detailed up a bit by now.
I will show a picture of that later...

Hi,

the exhaust will give the model a comic character. If you intend to build a serious car, the appearance from the rear wonīt will give a wrong impression.

looks good! But you may have to cut part of the bumper out to make the exhaust fit...

Well, I have sprayed and polished body now, it shines almost like a mirror.
But I have tried to mask window trims and paint them with a spraycan, but that came out like crap.
And while cutting out tape I scratched the paintjob also...

There is black paint everywhere that has leaked through the tape, so the car is messed up, I will not continue it.
Just so you know.

Well, at least I have learned something from this; never try to paint window trim...

Awh! Cīmon dude, donīt give up on the trim! It came out crap because you used a spraycan, masking+spraying direct from a can = disaster, thatīs something Iīve learnt along the way. The best way is to use a airbrush spraying with a low pressure. If you donīt have a airbrush I suggest trying "gundam" markers instead.

Good luck!

Yes, but Idon't have an airbrush, and can't get hold of gundam markers in here...
However I could order them somewhere on internet but I would need a credit card or paypal or whatever, I don't have both of them.

Only options were brush painting and a spraycan.
Since I know brush painting will leak I tried the can, but it leaked also :(

I've had the same problem with window masking. I tried with a brush and the tape always leaked.. Yet some on this forum have had great success with brush painting trims..!! I could never get it to work though..

Buy an airbrush, it's a good investment and even though you will have to use can air, just turn the nozzle attachment to the can so you get as little air coming through as possible. If you get a single action airbrush, set it to shoot a light amount of paint, and when you have the trim masked (make sure you burnise the tape edges) lay down a light coat of semi black. This will seal the tape. Then after a few minutes lay another coat down, leave for 5 minutes, then you can hit it with a more wet coat, but NOT too wet.. Aftet this, increase the paint flow, screw the air nozzle down a little more to add more air and lay down a final coat..!! After this, wait 10 minutes peel the tape of, it should be fine.. My attempts when doing this = perfect results all the time..

Good luck..
