97 Galant Lifters Need Help

Have anyone replaced lifters on 4G64 galant engine? Is camshaft held in place in this engine by rocker shafts? If I unbolt both the exhaust and intake rocker shafts to change lifters, is there any chance that I may disturb the camshaft position/timing belt. Also, any recommendations on where to buy the lifters for this car.

you can removw the pulleys of the cam and hold the belt on the pulleys with cable ties, the pulleys will only go on the cam in one position. also if you remove the lifters out they can lose hydraulic pressure so when you put them back in its always good to recrush them in a vice, also car can be hard to start due to lack of pressure in lifters but should start eventually

Thanks for the reply. For some reason I was thinking that if I remove rocker shafts, the camshaft and camshaft pulley will remain undistirbed. By looking at the engine it does not look like rocker shaft bolts are holding camshaft. So my question is do I need to remove the camshaft pulley and hold the timing belt in place or I don't need to worry about that and can I simply unbolt the rocker shaft change the lifters and put the rocker shaft back without doing anything to camshaft pulley?

On the 4G63T and the 6A13TT you can remove the rockers by compressing the springs on the valve stems. (As long as the cam is in the right position to allow this movement!) Once the rocker is off, the lasher will lift out of its housing. You need to rotate the engine by hand to rotate the cams for the rockers that you can't remove.

I can't guarantee that this procedure will work on a 4G64 as I have never seen anyone attempt it!
