Tach Installation

I have a 97 cavalier 2.2 w/o tach. I bought a auto meter tach and i want to know what color wire do I hook up the tach lead off the coil pack.

1slowcavy, this is a topic i recently became a "pro" at, installing its not quite that simple though, its simple, but not quite like that, you need to get a tach adaptor, with that tach adaptor you take the red wire and splice into the white wire on the coil pack, then you take the black wire and splice that into the orange wire, then on the other side of your tach adaptor youll find a green wire, that is the one you hook up to your tach, theres another way of doing it by splicing into a wire on your pcm however if you do that youll need a tach you can set at 2 cylinders, cuz it will only read half the rpms, also, the pcm is a royal pain in the ass to get to, if you want instructions on how to get to it though, let me know and i will type it all out, if you choose the tach adaptor, i recommend the sunpro one, sunpro might not be the highest quality brand around but it doesnt really matter with something like a tach adaptor, it either works or it doesnt, and the sunpro tach costs way less then even half of others that ive seen,
