Fuel Filter change

I'm going to changing the fuel filter on my camry 2.2 engine tomorrow and was wondering what the procedure is to discharge the fuel pressure. The haynes manual makes no mention of this but on my 92 celica w/ the same engine I had run it and pull the fuel pump fuse to relieve the pressure. Should I use the same procedure or just unbolt it and change it like it says in the manual? Thanks in advance.

I would use the same procedure you did on your Celica. Also, make sure you do this on a cold engine. Sorry if that seems obvious, but you can't be too careful.

I always changed fuel filters until I got a 96 Camry. The service manager at the Toyota stealership said they never change fuel filters unless an engine is changed out. The fuel pick-up in the gas tank has a sock over it preventing trash from entering the fuel line.

Its not just the trash from the gas. They told me its also possible that you can get water in there and that doesnt help either.

But I wouldnt change the fuel filter unless I had to. Even at the recommended interval. I think its at 60k

But if you must, after you pull the fuse, start the car and let it run until it stalls, that way you get the rest of the fuel out of the lines.

I made a huge mistake by changing the filter without relieving the pressure. I dripped around 3 gallons before I finally got the filter back in place. If I read the darn manual, I would have either a) not done it b) at least not wasted the gas and set myself up for an explosion.
