i was wondering if my ecm is a early OBD2 or later OBD2. it says that its OBD1 complient but its not OBD1. it has the computer under the hood. now if somebody can tell me how you read the numbers on it to tell what version it is. the truck was made in 6/95. is it really a 95 or a 96?

If the 10th digit in the VIN is a S, it's a 95. If it's a T, it's a 96.

It is an OBDII compliant computer.

I just recently did a small article on this. If you've never had it reflashed, you are probably 11 or 12 flashes behind... Some things won't really matter to your truck if you are not having specific issues, other parts of the flash will help increase your miledge a little bit as well as do some preventative things.. Get the latest set of flashes and the previous ones will be culmative.

i know its had the EGR done in 98 but other than that i don't know. i read your post on it. you said you can have it reflashed to be 100% OBD2. is that right or will it be the same of early version of OBD2 or can you play with it like you can on the newer OBD2s? such as changing the timing?

The updates really don't do a whole lot and I think you are just trying to find something to fix on your truck.
I would get it updated to the latest software version, but don't expect much. My mileage actually went down after it was flashed on mine.

Actually on mine, the shift improved somewhat (even over my existing transmission mods) and my mpg actually went up about 2mpg...I listed fixes in the other article I did

Mine went down 2mpg overall.
The transmission shifting liek usually.
Remember, the transmission will always shift tight for a while after you have reset the computer. It then relearns and softens up a bit.
