i have a hesitation problem that will not set any pattern. went to auto zone after engine light came on codded po101. book tells me mass air flow sensor. everyone tells me it either works or is dead not only a occasional problem. cap, rotor, wires, and plugs replaced also replaced fuel filter. dropped fuel tank it was clean and pump works. gas gauge is shit but computer track usage within a tenth of a gallon. that problem was found when truck was stranded and found out half elec components did not have juice. thanks to this forums page it was the wire harrness at the key. wasn't fun to replace

The MAF sensor will work even if its not reading the proper amount of air flow. It can give symptoms such as hesitation, poor fuel economy, rough idle. Its NOT either it works or its dead. In this case, I would first try to clean the sensor with some brake cleaner, spray it down good, and make sure you get the elements inside as clean as possible. Re-install it and reset your computer. If that does'nt work, then you will have to replace it. If you got a code from it, its out of range and the computer has found that.
