Hi everyone. New to the forums....Here is my issue (for the moment anyway as something is always wrong with this car)
Ever since last summer my 92 Chev Cavalier (automatic) periodically stalls out when I am coming to a stop at a sign or light or slowing down to turn a corner. When it stalls, the entire car shakes and rattles and the steering wheel "locks" . This doesnt happen all the time. But lately it has been happening more often. Sometimes the car will start up again right away, and will run fine. Other times it will start up only to stall out again as soon as I start to drive.... I have informed my garage of the problem last year, and they changed the spark plugs, and a belt, but it didnt help the problem. Also I just got a new battery in November so I know that is not the issue. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have heard that maybe it is cheap gas, and that maybe I should try to put in some "gasline anit-freeze" as it could be a moisture issue. But since it was happening in the summer as well, Im not sure if that would help.
One other issue as well. When I have driven my car, and stop to go into a store or whatever, and then re-start my car, I can smell gas in my car. This happens all the time. What could that be?? It only happens when I drive for a bit, shut the car off for a brief time and then re-start. If I havnt driven for a while, it doesnt get the "gas" smell.
I appreciate any advice, opinions you may have!
Take care all.

when you are comming to a stop the rpm's drop. if you smell fuel they very well could be related. look for leaks along the fuel system. i'm willing to bet you have a broken o-ring on an injector or a siezed/jamming injector. you should see fuel or some sign of fluid around the injectors or fuel rail (puddling, drain lines or something)

The gas smell is a bad O-ring on one of the injectors. The shutter/stall is the TCC solenoid. Unplug the TCC and you issue will be resolved. The plug is on the front of the tranny under the snorkel. It is the only plug in the area so you really can't confuse it with anything else. Good Luck.
