well you said no V8, so im not going to suggest a mustang or camaro.
i'd definetely suggeset a Nissan 240SX, or an Acura Integra, or an old Honda Civic, or an old Nissan Altima. All of these cars are 4bangers, and are midly upgradable while being cheap and easy on insurance.

thanks, what do you think about a Saturn? i guess they have had their eye on a red 93'. i know there is not much that i would fall in love with that doesn't have a V8, but i appreciate your comments. mabe a Honda civic w/ 5 speed manual to pep up that 4cl.

I'm personally not a huge fan of the saturns...if you want reliable, and easy on insurance get a 4 cylinder honda, toyota, or acura. They last, they are cheap to maintain and insure, and are relatively safe and slow enough that you wont kill yourself. I had enough teenage friends almost kill themselves in v8s...wait until you get some more experience under your belt, and then upgrade to the car you really want when you are out of school, have a steady income, and are a bit older and wiser...
Not trying to talk down to you, we were all 16 once and wanted fast cars, but I'm just telling you the route I think is best in retrospect...

thanks guys!!! i understand, im kind of a lead foot ill admit. I think that the who reason that i want a half way quick car or upgradeable one is because that is my passion, my hobby. cars always have and always will be something i will be intrested in. we have a 5.7liter ford expedition that i have a little too much fun with!!

acuras don't exactly don't have cheap insurance. in fact hondas and acuras have the most expensive insurance among economy cars. I would suggest an S10 or Ranger if you enjoy driving the expedition.

yeah i was thinking about a little 1/4 ton truck but if i get a truck i want at least an F 150 or 1500 with 4wd man this "no V8" thing there doin to me sux. no i cant afford insurence on it but thats all that appeals to me. there like get a 4cl mustang. uhh i would but thats not a mustang, a mustangs got a 5.0 not a 2.4 or what ever it is. well now were looking at those pontiac sunfire. those are deicent i like those, not alot of power but look good. i guess i need to just be grateful for what i get and not worry about the power cuz it'll just get me in trouble.

The Ford F-150 is a good truck w/ a 300 6cyl. They are slow but lots of torque. The insurance is fairly cheap as well. :2cents:

hey be greatful for anything you get! $2000 is a heck of lot of money. my first car cost £50! I'm real happy tht i got my dream car (my true dream car is the 2 litre version) and thats a 1300cc, 58 hp brit classic with a 0-60 of 17.5 seconds!
This is my rule as far as speed is concerned
a first car has to be able to exceed 80mph, fine for the occasional short motorway trip
(my top speed.... 84mph!!!)
Second car and above need to exceed 100mph, tottaly at home with motor way cruising and a little messing around :p

Heh, my first car was $500 American and it all came out of my own pocket. 89 Ford Escort. Lots of fun to drift with, but the speedo only went to 85 >.< I think I pushed the car to 90 once but i have no way to prove it.
So yea, be happy with whatever you can get. If I were you I'd go with a 90-92ish Civic CRX or Nissan 240, or a 94-96 Chevy Cavalier.

I drove a brand-new 1991 Mitsu Eclipse GSX (4WD) when I was 17, and it wasn't my parent's car, it was MY car. I thought it was ok, Eclipse was hot back then, but I always wanted a Porsche 911 Turbo, and I still do, I still can't afford one, this sucks.

imo there is nothing like a dsm. i drive a 99gsx. but thats not under 2k or a sluggish car. my first car was a 89 civic si. it was fast enough for me at that time and i spent about 10 bucks a week for gas. good reliable car, never had any problems with it. guess that kind of helps.
