99' P71 flooded won't start

Car Won't Start
-checked fuel cut off in trunk, ok
-pulled the fouled plugs changed to new ones
-cleared the OBDII codes, P0304, P0305, P0307 (Misfires on cyl. 4,5 & 7)
-disconnected battery, reconnected
-fuel guage at 3/4 full
No longer getting fuel
Do I need to reset anything else? Why won't it start?

Do you hear the pump running?

I just tried it again...not a peep from the pump. all the fuses seem okay too.
I was hoping it wouldn't be the fuel pump ($).

Before you go crazy changing the pump, there is a relay for the pump under the hood, in the fuse box. You can try just swapping the existing relays around to see if the will run. If you have a voltmeter, try to see for voltage to the pump, from the heavy cable that goes from the inside of the trunk, over the rear axle down to the gas tank

99% chance of it being the pump. I have a 2000 Gran Marquis, pump went out at 70K on the clock. Jumper the relay connections under the hood and listen for the pump, if you dont hear it, dont go any further, get a replacement pump. Go to Autozone for it, they are the least expensive, and you dont need to get the whole asembly, just the pump. One more word of advice, if you do it yourself, there is an electronic device on the passenger top part of the tank, it is the pressure sensor to detect if the cap is in place. Be careful when dropping the tank, its connected to the same harness as the pump, and they break real easy! :rolleyes:

All the relays tested out okay and there's power to the inertia switch in the trunk, so it must be the pump. This car has 250 000kms so I guess it was about time.

There ain't no Autozone In Montréal. I can get my hands on parts for these cars cheap shouldn't be more than 100$CAD (I have a taxi connection)

I was finally able to get under the car this weekend. Took a look at the wire going to the pump, it was all corroded. So I spliced in a new 6" piece of wire and it was good to go. It's running great now, better than ever. The new plugs make a huge difference too, no CELs and better fuel efficiency, power too.
