Post what you think does NOT belong on any Japanese car
I think altezza lights, underglow neon, 10 inch wings, huge bodykits, etc. do not belong on Imports

Everything made by APC, cheap universal mufflers, ugly "street fighter" body kits, ugly-ass spoilers, and chrome tail lights. None of these things belong on an import, or any car.

I don't think you should be talking about imports in general, there are some really good imports: Ferarri, lamborghini, rolls royce, bentley, porsche, mercedes... anything not from north america could be considered an import. I think you mean japanese economy cars.

Anything that doesn't serve any purpose other than to look flashy or draw attention. This includes five-foot tall wings on front-wheel-drive economy cars, five-inch mufflers for 100-horsepower four-cylinder engines, and Lambo doors on a $2,000 Honda.

Ludespeed is right. You never hear of a Ferrari being referred to as an "import". Anything from Italy or Germany or Britain are what we call "exotic" cars. This thread is about Japanese cars and what we hate to see on them. How often do you see a Ferrari with ricer equipment on it?

But how many of those cars are really IMPORTED?
Don't even talk about Italian cars, their fit and finish are awful, you can see most of them has problems on that. I know, they are assebled by hand, but can't they tell it when finished? And if we can tell, they should be able to tell too.

At least they use quality materials in their cars...not as much can be said for Japanese car makers.

Quality material is more important than fit and finish, huh? Nice theory.
That means if your car is made out of let's say gold, it doesn't matter even it the bumper has a 1-ince gap between it and the body? :uhoh:

And you have what to back that up? I have been around a lot of Ferrari's and I have yet to see a stock Ferrari that has any kind of fit or finish problems. I can't account for any of the other Italian cars but Ferrari should be excluded in that statement unless you have some kind of pictures to back that up. :2cents:

Simple answer to the original question. No sport compact (From any country) should have: Fart cans (on sale for $13.99 at AutoZone), Giant wings, stickers worth more than the car, Neon glow on/under/between/around/up everything, exhausts made for no purpose other than to sound like a pissed off hornet, and symbols for companies nothing on your car is in any way associated with.

I agree. Ferrari's are hand-made, so every little detail comes out perfect. That's also why they cost so freakin much.

the nsx is also hand made AND is made using relatively hi-tech construction methods (for a 14 odd year old car).
of course, it isn't an economy car....
and er.... japanese cars don't use 'quality' materials?
and american cars do?
italian cars have bad fit and finish?
less than 100% reliable electrics maybe but when's the last time you saw an alfa with bad panel fittings or squeeky interiors?
when's the last time bits fell off a lancia?
when did you last hear of troubles with a maserati?
oh yeah.... that must've been around 15 years ago.
yes, they haven't made a single improvement since then.
right.
have you seen how many spot checks a lamborghini goes through before it is allowed out of the factory gates?
do you know how many hours is spent making sure the bodywork is faultless (compared to the not so many hours it takes for an american car to roll off the assembly line)?
and what?
a car from the UK is exotic (ford fiesta?)?
a german car is exotic (vw lupo?)?
japanese cars are imports.... so aren't italian cars imports, y'know, them needing to 'imported' and all that...
back to the german and british cars.... aren't they imported? or do they magically appear in the U.S after manufacture?

I have to say is that I've been around some Maserati, and Fiat and that statement is refering them. Too bad that don't see a lot of Ferrari so I can't say I'm right or not about Ferrari. If you have been offended by that, I'm sorry. :) But for those Maserati and Fiat, I've done seen a lot of them are not symmetrical on the outside. :uhoh:

Chrome rims on a Honda, any body kit under $500 cuz that's just too cheap, huge wings on a Honda/Toyota/Mitsubishi 4-banger n/a (you aint going that fast). Nothing should be done to a civic or eclipse...far too overplayed.
If you see a Ferrari with fitment and finish problems, then you must be looking at a kit car. There's a good reason they cost $100,000+, and its not because they're fast, it's cuz they're perfect in every way.

Replying to the original question, import is relative to where you call home as in country. Me USA, I'd also agree things like 20 foot spoilers, obnoxious body kits, fart trumpet exhausts, and more stickers than paint shouldn't be put on any car. As far as fit and finish goes, I think Japanese do a very good job with lesser grade materials, than the Euros with finer grade materials. The fit and finish on a Lambo, or Ferrari had damned well better be good for the price! Same goes for BMWs, Benzes any Rolls etc. However the reliability factor of a Honda Civic is much better than anything from Italy, or even Germany for that matter, and let's not even mention Britain. I laugh when I see the afformentioned items on Hondas, Acuras etc. Can't even imagine them on a Jag, or Bentley that would have to be one of the funniest things ever.

underpowered cars(like a base model civic or celica) being badged as something they are not(ie. Type R and GT-S). this goes for all cars, including domestics like V6 camaros with z28 badges.
on the flip side i dont mind you de-badging your car or buying the fastest version and making it look like a base model(sleeper).
