I would like to buy a good ODB-I scan tool for my 1995 K2500 Suburban with 350 TBI. Who makes a good one and were is a good place to buy one?

I don't want to count dash light flashes. I want one with a text display. I've looked at AutoXray. Are they any good?

Any tips will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill

Do you own a laptop? If so you can download a program that you can use as a scantool with an adapter. The program is free to try then if you decide you like it I think its about $120.00. The adapter i bought cost about $30.00 on ebay. The nice thing about the laptop is you can look at everything at one time because you have a really big display screen rather than only 1 or 2 lines like on a scantool. It also allows you to record and playback stuff. Also graphs four outputs on bottom of screen. I love the program I got..here is the link...http://www.ttspowersystems.com. I also own an OTC Mindreader scan tool that works very well...but I think they are about $500. (i actually like the laptop better) Ive heard that sometimes the autoxray ones don't give the right info. Hope this helps.

auto x-ray is alright but it doesn't do airbags or abs. you could try buying a used tech 1 from e-bay which would be more versatile than anything else for your vehicle since it's gm's tool. i have a snap-on solus scan tool it works pretty well but is probably out of your price range. however you should be able to find a used snap-on MT-2500 with the right primary cartridge and troubleshooter for about $500 on e-bay. this will blow all those cheap scan tools out of the water and it works on abs, airbags, and transmissions. the trouble shooter is nice because it defines most trouble codes and tells the most common causes and fixes. if you get one with the books you will have wiring diagrams and bulletins for your vehicle as well.
don't even bother with those cheap code-readers, you can get the same result with a paperclip by jumping the A&B terminals of the ALDL.
