take door panels off

I have a 92 caprice, and I have to take my front door panels off, just wondering how to do that? i cant seem to get it off, and I don't want to break anything, any help would be appreciated.

Try getting a Chilton's or Haynes manual for your Caprice door removal situation. They basically tell you step by step what to do.

I assume the later cars use the same stupid little tabs that twist into the door panel and then wedge into the door frame.

I have made a habit out of buying new tabs before I start this job, you'll need 10 or more I'd guess.

Then I take an old screwdriver that I have ground the tip to a flat sharp edge. Next start at on end of the door and gentyl pry it up with your fingers. You'll be able to see where the tabs are at. Now stick the sharp edge of the screwdriver I mentioned up against the tab. Not hit the screwdriver with a hammer until you break thru that tab. Repeat as needed on each tab.

You could pick up a panel removal tool... It basically looks like a screwdriver but it has a slight bend at the end and the tip is is about one inch wide split in two. I picked mine up for about 2-3 bucks. The door panels on these cars are cheap, so take your time. Take out all of the screws that you can find in the panel (behind the handle, in the armrest padding,etc.) and like CD said, get some extra "trees", 'cause you're going to need them.

When the whole panel is loose, you'll find that the top of the panel where it meets the window will be hard to remove. Roll down the window, and as you push up on the panel, give it a slap along the top edge. This should enable you to release the tabs at the top of it, and VOILA! you have a removed panel! (works for me, anyways)

Slide your hand behind the hanging panel, and carefully release all of the electrical connections. The plastic clips that hold the connections in place will more than likely be brittle from age, so again, be careful, and take your time....
