Factory alarm?

Did all VR4s come with a factory alarm? I have a keyles entry but its a pain and only works when I'm right next to the car and it dosent set off the alarm if I just open the door, it also dosent lock itself if I forget. If they came with one how can I turn it on? Is there any way to be able to use the crappy little controller from a distance (I tried changing the battery but it didn't help much).

A lot, not all of course, of stock alarms are pretty crappy. But the fact that you say your alarm doesn't go off when you open the door is kinda weird....doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of having an alarm? LOL Anyways, it may be your trigger. My triggers are kinda worn so sometimes when I open the door, my alarm doesn't go off because my trigger wasn't triggered (ok, that sounded redundant). But yeah, maybe get an aftermarket one? :)

Its a passive alarm. If you want to try it out put your window down and shut the door and lock it with the remote or lock it then shut it. Without unlocking it reach inside and pull the handle to open the door. It should start going off.

To disable it shut the door and either lock it and unlock it with the key or remote.

Yeah what Stealthee said...mine only works from like 10 feet away max. It kinda sucks, but then again what do you need it for from any further anyway. The door triggers go bad, mine are bad, and as a result it doesn't "detect" the door opening which makes the alarm useless. I'd suggest you go to the dealer and order some new triggers...there's one for the trunk too, although I don't know where, I just know it set my alarm off once when I opened the hatch. I still don't know how to turn the alarm off once its going, other than disconnecting the battery which is a pain.

Yea I just opned up my remote (only one, need to go to the dealer to see what I need then Ebay lol) to clean the contacts and theres one labled trunk but it dosent have a button over it lol.

Try unscrewing the door triggers and screwing them back on. Because at first, both of my triggers were really bad but I managed to unscrew my driver side one and I think it might have loosened some rust or something because it works fine now. The trigger on my passenger is still crappy and I haven't been able to unscrew it. They're really tough to unscrew....at least mine were.

yeah I broke one screwdriver trying to unscrew the driver one, finally got it off with a bigger one.

by trigger I am assuming you mean thedoor lock actuator?? What exactly do you unscrew? My drivers side lock doesnt like to lock all the way when its cold.

When I say trigger, I'm referring to the "pushy thingy" near the bottom of the sideskirt. It's covered with a rubber top but if you take that out, you'll see the trigger and some screw there.

aha! Yah mine sticks sometimes. I pulled the boot off and lubed it up with wd-40.

what i hate more than the distance problem is that u r light dosent flash or it dosent horn if the door is locked or unlocked. so basically if your not near the car u r not going to know if the door is locked or not.

yeah thats true, the interior lights flash, but that's only good for night.

I got a factory alarm but I got no keyless entry, turning the key in the door turns off the alarm. :grinyes:

Wierd, I should go by the dealer and check out what I have and get another remote.

crazy quick, what year do you have? 91-92 didnt have keyless entry at all.

Thourun, if you go to the dealer to get a remote be prepared to spend at least $125 on one.

hey had the same problem with a SL, i had to check the harness that connected the door to the ECU, its a pain to get to, you ahve to take off the fender to really work on it, but what happened to mine was the connections shorted, so i took it apart and resoddered everything and shrank wrapped everything, the lock and unlock are brown and brown white wires and the alarm wire is...i want to say green? if you have any questions feel free to pm me

My right door somtimes dosent want to unlock also, wierd.

did all SL's have keyless entry and alarm because mine didnt come with a remote when i bought it. and the alarm(if there is one) has never gone off.

The alarm is just a passive alarm, the remote only arms it in the way that the doors lock and it wil only go off if you open the door from the inside. Your SL should have keyless entry. Very few 3/s's didnt have keyless other than 91-92 since they didnt have the option.

Its such a weak ystem though, I changed the battery in the remote and it still only works from right next to the drivers door... Annoying

Dumb question but umm....when you guys say keyless entry, do you mean that it comes with a remote where you could just push the button on the remote to unlock it or do you mean that the car has power locks? I've always thought keyless entry was the first one where there's a remotive involved!?!

Yes Keyless Entry uses a remote to unlock the door. I have keyless entry but not the remote.:(

oh ok well i need to get a new remot so i can use it.

They sell them on ebay, theres a thing on stealth316 (I think thats where it is) that tells how to make it work with your car.

Well, I don't think all GTs came with a remote. My car has a security feature but it never came with a remote.
