I have seen a few people with this written in their sig. saying that they have done all the free mods to their car. What exactly does this mean? And how much do these mods help?

cant speak for the guys with it in their sigs, but free mods typically include.....

- throttle body coolant bypass
- removing the MAF sensor screen
- Home porting and blending of induction system
- cooler running thermostat
- open element air cleaner
- stripping weight out of the car
- Timing adjustments
- wiring the lockup converter to lockup as soon as it shifts into second. (not good for daily driving.)
- and in some cases a proporly placed resistor will fool the engine into thinking its colder than it really is, and it will run a bit richer and make a bit more power.

Id say if you did ALL of these things, you might see 30hp increase, on a good day. id say 15 is more realistic.

As far as free mods go, on an LT1 car (mine being a '93) the only
power increase I saw was removing the 'silencing' equipment in the
intake tract as well as deleting the filter (track use only).
The 160F thermostat also added power by richening the fuel mixture,
but it wasn't technically free.

free mods.. :lol2:

everytime i see this, i think of that site that said every 15 or so pounds removed from the car equaled 1hp...

also gets me when "street racers" take out their backseats and put on lightweight carbon fiber hoods to save.. but then add ground effects and a huge stereo system.... lol.. gets me everytime
