Alternator wiring

I did a TPI swap with a painless wiring harness. But there was no connection provided for the alternator. It is a gm alternator with a post on the back and one connector (red and brown wire). I ran a wire from the post on the back, to the battery, and my voltmeter works. Is there any reason to worry about the other connection?
