I've got a factory plastic liner on my 2000 Tacoma. It's not a work truck, I haul basic household stuff.
Is a spray-on bedliner a worthwhile investment? My my bed completely rust-out like they claim?

My first job was detailing cars and so I was able to see what the plastic liners did to trucks. The rusting seems to occur from rocks and dirt being trapped between the bed and the liner, which grind into and through the paint to expose the bare metal to the moisture that also can be trapped under there. Trucks several years old that had been used well had rust, but I never saw any that was really extreme, certainly not a complete rust-out. If rust does appear, it can always be treated before applying a spray-in liner.
I got the spray-in liner in my last truck and the Tacoma I now have already had a spray-in when I bought it used. I have been real happy with them, never had a problem. The first liner was Rhino Linings and it did show some unusual wear along the edges of the bed. I took the truck to a nearby Rhino store that recently opened and they immediately scheduled me for another spraying for free from the lifetime warrenty. Service was excellent, and I would think that most other companies would be the same.
As far as whether it is worthwhile, that is all up to you. Depending on the size of the bed you could be looking at pricing around $400 on up, more if you want the spray to go over the top of the railing, and I think a color other than black could be more.

I'm planning on purchasing a DIY kit, like Herculiner, which retails for about $100. Can anyone provide feedback on the quality of this kit?
