Blown suspension

Okay so I bought coilovers and installed them onto my car. SUCKs my struts blew out. My question is I know I need shorter struts to make this lowering of the car work. Does a auto parts store sell a shorter strut size for a OEM style strut for the Accord. Or do I need to go buy a Eibach kit or some aftermarket company to get my ride height lowered. Whats is the point of coilovers it just sounds like a fast way to ruin your suspension can somebody please explain this concept and give me some advice on what to do. I really dont want to put out the mopney for a high performance suspension cuz this is my non racing car I just want it to look good and have it dropped about 1.5-2.0 inches

someone correct me if i'm wrong but i think you can use the oem struts with your coil overs, thats what i did and haven't had any problems.

Yeah, since you said that those are the original shocks on your car I would replace them. I'm kind of having the same kind of problem. I put some 17" Konigs on my GSR but then when it felt like I was in a pick-up truck and I got a really good deal on some brand new adjustable coil overs at my local performance shop ($80 for all 4) I decided to put some on and drop my car a couple inches or so. But now I can tell that I need some new shocks but I'm too cheap to go out and buy some just because the ride is a little bumpy. But to answer your question I really don't think that you'll need a different size or type of shock. Just new ones. They are a wear and tear part after all.

Stock struts can not handle the spring rates of lowering springs or coilover sleeves. Lots of people think their car rides great on lowered springs with stock struts, they don't know what they're talking about.

DON"T BE CHEAP WITH SUSPENSION OR YOU WILL REGRET IT!

Anything more than 1.5"-1.75" or more of lowering should be done using Koni sports. Up to 1.75" Tokico, Koni, or KYB can be used. I recommend something with adjustable damping - KYB AGX, Tokico Illumina, or Koni Sport.

To the guy with 17's, it wont matter what suspension your using because the tire sidewall is so thin. The car is always going to ride like crap. Tire sidewall's are the first thing to absord bumps.

I would also recommend stopping by the suspension forum where all this has been covered numerous times.
