Testor's Dullcote

I'm stupid :banghead:

I bought two Testor's products from US-based Tower Hobbies (I'm from the UK) and they took around a month to arrive (which I don't mind) but I have just found out I bought the wrong things.

I thought I had bought dullcote (I actually bought Testor's Flat Clear & Semi Gloss Clear, thinking this would alter my glossy surfaces to flat & semi)

So....I decided to re-visit Tower Hobbies and was happy to find they had dullcote in stock and I planned to buy a few bottles to make the postage to the UK worthwhile.

HOWEVER.....Reading the "Flammable - cannot be shipped via Air" link I found that they can only send this item within the U.S.!!!!!

WHICH BRINGS ME TO MY MAIN POINT:

What do you UK modellers use for making 'gloss' surfaces 'flat'?

Just when I thought the web could answer all my modelling prayers too!

Cheers CJ, but nah, that ain't it. I don't want to make a glossy paint flat. It's parts which I have applied Acrylic gloss (for easier application of decals) and then I want that part to be flat. So, I'm looking for a clear flat, as opposed to clear gloss if that makes sense!!!!

I'm sure I told you all this in your first Dullcote thread. ;)

I think you're getting a bit confused, Testors Flat Clear is still a 'flat' ie dull varnish, its just not lacquer like Dullcote is. Flat/Matt/dull, its all the same thing.

I personally recommend Pollyscale Matt Varnish, available from www.hannants.co.uk. If its good enough for the super-anal train modelers, its good enough for us :D

Also, whenever you use flat varnish, make sure its well stirred and all thick white gunk is not stuck to the bottom. Thats the stuff that makes it 'flat'.

Thanks F,

You probably did tell me all this already but due to modelling toxins I have no 'memory-function'

I'll get that stuff from Hannants, thanks again.

No problem. :D However before you get the pollyscale stuff give the Testors stuff a try, it might work well enough.

Cheers
