I have an Emachines with Intel integrated graphics. Yeah its crap but Im working with what I got. I have had the computer a few months and just decided to try Battlefield 1942 to see how it ran. Once I installed it automatically set to lowest graphics. The game ran choppy in bot match. And over all wasnt too great. Well just last week I searched the web for driver updates and stuff because I happened to think of it. Before I had done all of this though I had installed Soldiers of Fortune 2 Gold Edition and if you have played it under the graphics settings it says card type and whatever. Mine said Intel and Brookendale for the second one. I had ghosted my computer and reinstalled everything, including Soldiers because I was having some problems. So everything is like new, right?? Well I searched the intel site and updated the following things. The integrated graphics driver, DirectX 9.0C, intel applications accelerator, intel extreme graphics, and a chipset update. Some things out of those maybe the same thing. But thats the new stuff. Well. I reinstalled Battlefield and ran an instant action game just a few days ago. Well when I got in the game everything was more detailed and it ran faster. I didnt understand. I went under video settings and it was set on high standard this time. So I decided to go to Soldiers and check out the stuff there. Now instead of saying Intel and Brookendale they both say Unknown. WTF happened?? Im not complaining. Everything runs smoother and on better graphics. But now it says unknown. Its an Intel 82845G Graphics controller with 64MB of ram for video.

That but there is one other little thing I wanted to know. I still have this problem. When I try to run Battlefield 1942 going throught the campaign I get on the first level, get probably 3/4 of the way of winning and then it turns the screen black and the computer restarts. Why is it doing this?? Also I havent tried it yet. But the first time I tried to uninstall it nothing would work and I had to ghost the computer to remove it at all. Do I have to get online to get the normal updates to fix this?? Or is it my disk??

Do you have Windows XP? XP doesn't like drivers that don't agree with it and random rebooting can sometimes occur due to that. The unknown drivers might be causing it. I suggest you uninstall and reinstall your graphics drivers.

Also, it's probably running faster because of the driver updates (you'd be surprised how much that helps) and the Intel Application Accelerator is a better IDE controller for your hard drives which will typically help speed things up as well overall. I would also make sure your Windows has the latest updates from Microsoft and might help to make sure the graphics aperture size is set to 64mb in your BIOS to match what you're supposed to have (set it to AGP as well since it's integrated). This is usually overlooked by computer manufacturers.

Yeah. I have XP Home. Everything runs fine but the only thing I dont get is why my computer cuts out of the first level in Battlefield 1942 and then restarts. I can play as many Instant Action games as I want but when I try campaign the screen will go black when I am just about done and the computer restarts and goes back to the desktop.

Either it's the video card or sound card drivers causing it (the game's trying to use something when loading the first level that isn't working - probably full motion video or something) or the installation of the game may be bad. My roommate had similar problems with his 1942 being fussy about stuff. His PC didn't reboot, but it gave him lots of trouble playing the main game.

I suggest reinstalling your sound card, video card, and monitor drivers and then uninstalling 1942, reboot, and reinstall it. Again, make sure your BIOS settings reflect an AGP card with a 64mb aperture and also check your Device Manager and see if you have more than one "video card" installed under "Display Adapters". If you have just the Intel integrated graphics and you have another card installed or other drivers, they might be conflicting with it as well and you may want to try disabling or uninstalling the culprit if that's the case.
